What Will Happen To This Land?
By Federal Law approximately 1,800 acres of the
23,500 have been allocated for industrial
development.
 CenterPoint, in a separate transaction, acquired
in May of 1999 a 375-acre farm to increase the
proposed Deer Run Industrial Park to nearly
2,200 acres.
 The remaining acres of the Arsenal have been
reserved for the Midewin Tallgrass Prairie, and
the Abraham Lincoln National Veterans
Cemetery.

The Deer Run Industrial Park:
The Park Will Include The Following:




A state-of-the-art, multi-use, intermodal rail
facility (the largest in North America).
17 million square feet of modern distribution,
manufacturing and cross-dock terminal space.

possibly as large as 1000 megawatts to supply
power to CenterPoint’s clients at a large discount
to Com Ed rates.

stops and ancillary office facilities.
Chicago’s Rail Predicament:
 Chicago’s
rail yards are congested and pushing
full capacity.
 Intermodal
traffic grew at a rate between 8 and
10 percent in 1997.
 By
the year 2020, the Chicago Metropolitan
area will require more than 4,000 additional
acres of Intermodal capacity.
