French- Prior to conflict with England in the colonies,
France controlled the majority of North America. Ohio
River Valley, Mississippi River valley, entire Great Lakes
region…area from Appalachian Mountains to Rocky
Mountains
English- Prior to conflict with France- 13 English
Colonies in the East coast of the United States
Parliament- English law making body of Great Britain
War between Britain and France breaks out in the colonies.
French and Indian War- War fought over colonial territory
between the French and Native Americans VS. The English
colonists (The Iroquois did not ally)
Albany Plan of Union- Ben Franklin suggested a plan to
unite the colonies. “Join or Die.”
Treaty of Paris 1763- England wins-marked the end of
France as a power in North America. Great Britain and
Spain divided the continent using the Mississippi River as
the boundary.
Proclamation of 1763- King George III did not allow
colonists to settle west of the Appalachian Mountains.
Britain’s reasons for the proclamation line was to prevent
any further wars with the Natives.

Taxes- England placed a large
amount of taxes on the colonies to

Boycott- Refusal to buy or sell
goods.
War between Britain and the Colonists breaks out in the Colonies
Revolutionary War- Colonists fight for
independence from Great Britain
Loyalists- 1/3 of people in the colonies were
Loyal to the king of England and supportive of
the taxes parliament made
Patriots- 1/3 of people in the colonies supported
independence
