Obstacles • The target population does not have transportation • Time restraints due to working, transportation, and child care • Low literacy Tips: • Use translation phones or a translator, don’t just give them a paper and assume they can read • Use visual aids and demonstrations • Ask them to repeat and demonstrate information taught • Be culturally competent and look at each patient individually • Observe and assess body language • Ask open-ended questions to confirm understanding • Inform them of community resources available Thanks for listening!!
