their seat, read, and enjoy.  On the desk, I also left you a
paper and pen in case you need to take notes, or write a note
to your student!

Instruction Focus: real-life relevance, critical thinking,

Writing Workshop
Taught by homeroom teacher

35 minute class per day.

Focuses on the writing process through mini lessons that
students then model in their writing


Writing will focus on narratives, informational text, and
opinion/argument writing

Students will be expected to read 2 independent books each
trimester.
Book report forms will be due on each book.
Midterm 1 AR is due at the end of the day on Thursday, September 17th.
Trimester 1 AR is due at the end of the day on Tuesday, November 10th.
Midterm 2 AR is due at the end of the day on Thursday, January 7th.
Trimester 2 AR is due at the end of the day on Tuesday, March 1st.
Midterm 3 AR is due at the end of the day on Thursday, April 14th.
Trimester 3 AR is due at the end of the on Wednesday, May 25th.

Bellwork Quizzes

Students will complete bellwork each day (Monday-Thursday)
Quiz over the two weeks of lessons will be every other Friday
Bellwork consists of comprehension skills, writing, grammar, and vocabulary
Everything will be written/glued in “bellwork notebook”
Books:


Students will read 3 of the following and will not be able to read the titles for AR:
 The Lion, the Witch, and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis.






Grading
– 80% of grade is based on projects, tests, and quizzes
– 20% of grade is based on homework and participation

Homework

When stations begin in October, homework will all be due at the end of the week.
Students will have “daily assignments” and will be given class time to work, but I will
not collect it until the station rotation is over.
Weekly goal sheets will be given at the start of the week with the expectations.


