LIP SYNC WINNERS: The almost 20 year tradition of holding a Lip Sync contest at Fun Fair continues
at SSPP, with eager children ready to add to their busy schedules and Mother's willing to make the
sacrifices necessary so that their children can practice. All simply for fun, good honest silly fun and to do
it together as one faith community. The Social Hall was once again busting at the seams last Saturday
night with dedicated Teachers, Clergy, supportive Parents, Grand Parents, siblings and fellow students all
sharing in the excitement. As the MC I have had the gift of seeing you, the "audience" ....all loving SsPP
families and it is both rewarding and comforting. It is also such a joy to see our teachers faces in the
crowd, who have chosen to come after a long day. Did you hear the Children roar with delight when Mr.
Ebeling's name was announced? We are indeed blessed here at SSPP, we are blessed to have each other
and Fun Fair night helps remind us of that blessing each year.
A special thank you to our volunteer judges, Mrs. Shay, Mrs. Curtis, Mr. Scanlon, Mrs. Krug and Mr.
Nawara.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE
PARENT SURVEY FOR SCHOOL EVALUATION - In my September newsletter which was online
last Thursday, I referenced that our school was scheduled by the diocese to take part in the Recognition /
School Improvement Process. That event will take place on Tuesday, December 13.
Prior to the arrival of the ten person evaluation team, we need to prepare many documents which describe
our religion program, curriculum, test scores, financial reports, policies, leadership boards, and school
goals. There is also a survey for faculty and staff and another for parents. It should take no more than ten
to fifteen minutes to respond to all of the questions and we hope you will take the time to provide us, and
the diocesan officials, with your input.
Surveys are to be completed by Friday, October 7. Please click here to access the survey.
MRS. HAYES LEAVING - I regret to inform you that Mrs. Barbi Hayes, our fourth and fifth grade
small group Math teacher has submitted her resignation, effective Friday, October 14, the final day of the
first marking period. Mrs. Hayes will be moving to India with her husband, Jim, due to a job transfer.
Mrs. Hayes has been with us since the 2005-06 school year, and her creativity, enthusiasm, motivational
ability, and great rapport with her students will be sorely missed. We wish her well in her move to Asia
and hope she will return to our staff in the future.
Replacing Mrs. Hayes will be Mrs. Natalie Bell. Mrs. Bell has her undergraduate degree from Lewis
University and graduate degree from St. Xavier University. She has middle school endorsements in Math,
Science, Language Arts, and Social Studies. Her previous experience includes Kennedy Jr. High
(Naperville), Cass Jr. High (Darien), Concord Elementary (Darien), and Mooseheart Child City and
School.
Mrs. Hayes and Mrs. Bell will be transitioning during the week of October 10.
TWO ASTERISKS ON WEEKLY EDLINE REPORT - If you should ever view your child’s weekly
progress report and see two asterisks (**) next to any item such as homework, quiz, or test, it means that
the grade listed in the upper left hand corner under the subject and teacher's name is not accurate. **
indicates that work is missing, a test or quiz have not been taken, or a report has not been turned in.
Therefore, until those issues are resolved, no grade has been assigned. Obviously penalties for late work
and a low test score can bring that grade down significantly.
Since ** refers to missing work, please note the penalty for late work as listed on p. 31 of the ParentStudent Handbook.
ABSENTEE NOTES - Our office staff would be appreciative if parents sending notes to school
explaining a child’s absence would include the child’s name, homeroom, and have the family name
printed out. There are some names which are very common and if the homeroom is omitted and if the
parent signature is difficult to read, much time is wasted trying to identify the child.
