Senior English: World Literature
Syllabus: September to December, 2013

The student is responsible for being prepared for class by following the schedule in the
syllabus. The instructor retains the right to alter dates or add assessments as the need
arises. Changes to the syllabus will be posted on the teacher’s page.
This class is designed to be interactive and your participation is crucial. As one means
of assessing your involvement, daily attendance will be monitored. If you are absent,
you are responsible for securing class notes and handouts and checking the teacher’s
page for any changes. Tests, in class essays, etc. must be made up within two days of
your return to school.

The Little, Brown Handbook is an important grammar, usage, writing and style resource
book that has been adopted for the sophomore, junior, and senior classes. You should
consult this text for help/review as you complete your homework. Specific assignments
will be made at the instructor’s discretion, and you are responsible for bringing your book
to class when work is due.
Literature—Pearson Prentice-Hall World Masterpieces: Reading Schedule.
Be prepared to discuss the assigned works on the dates indicated. Preparation includes
completing the reading and initiating or participating in class discussion. Class
preparation may be tested through measures such as unannounced quizzes, in class
writing assignments, or group discussion.
