Resources: promethean board, novel, pre-reading handouts, figurative language assignment, sonnet
handouts, Elements of Literature textbook, journal
Lesson Objective – Finish the poetry unit today. Review the two types of sonnets, take notes and
outline rhyme scheme on three sonnets. Read sonnet review from textbook. Review Figurative
Language assignment, provide handout, DUE FRIDAY. Begin unit on Of Mice and Men novel.
Discuss the historical context of the book and setting/era of the Great Depression. Complete
author discovery on John Steinbeck.

together. Complete Chapter 1 vocabulary together.

Men novel. Finish reading Chapter 2, complete study guide questions. Identify slang words being
used in the novel and their relation to the education level of the characters. Discuss the theme of
survival in that moment of America’s history. Initiate literature circle on foreshadowing what is to
come. DEAR DAY 7th period.
