Ernest Hogan wrote two famous pieces


One eventually sold one million copies
Ragtime was never “recorded” it was only
written on sheet music.

Parents were ex-slaves
Grew up near Texarkana , Texas
Learned to play piano , guitar, and cornet at a very young
age
Left home to travel and perform (14 years?)
St. Louis – settles here the age of 18 to 26
