Job Profile Job title Business Executive Responsible to Business Manager Responsible for None Job purpose To develop high quality learning and development activities to meet the needs of practitioners, lines managers, supervisors and related staff. To enhance the professional image of the CIPD and contribute to the achievements of CIPD Enterprises’ commercial objectives. Key accountabilities 1 To work with the Business Manager to manage a portfolio of events, including future related Certificate programmes, to ensure overall objectives are met. 2 To develop new events, ensuring that these continue to meet the required syllabus/educational criteria and professional and administrative standards required. 3 To quality control of short courses and future certificate programmes, in terms of content, presentation and administration that meet both internal quality standards and external awarding body criteria. 4 To work with the Business Manager in collation of portfolio profit and loss spreadsheets and forecasting of future portfolio income. 5 To monitor the financial performance of events including weekly bookings and agreed performance parameters and, with the Business Manager, take the action required to ensure financial targets are met, whilst ensuring quality standards are maintained. 6 To run inductions for all new tutors, ensuring tutors are provided with relevant information to assist them in tutoring on CIPD events including background information on the CIPD, house style guidelines, deadlines for course materials, delegate profiles, customer expectations etc. 7 In conjunction with the Business Manager, to ensure our existing programmes remain leading edge by keeping up-to-date with the latest practice in the field. 8 In conjunction with course tutors, to prepare and update course materials and content for the VLE, ensuring it meets our own quality standards and present materials in an informative, clear and professional way. Job profile – Business Executive July 2011 9 To monitor our competitors, to ensure our portfolio is effectively differentiated in the marketplace. 10 To undertake project work as required by the Business Manager, to ensure our portfolio of events remain market leaders. 11 To develop good relationships with tutors, operations team, commercial sales team and delegates and provide high levels of customer service. 12 To assist in writing brochure copy for promotional materials, liaising with tutors as required, according to agreed deadlines. 13 To manage and fulfil trainer requests from the commercial sales team to agreed SLAs, acting as a central point of contact for the team and working with portfolio Business Managers to fulfil requests. 13 Nature and scope The job holder will work with the Business Manager on a range of portfolio of events within CIPD Training and Certificate programmes. The role involves assisting in the design and development of new courses and, potentially, certificate programmes to meet the needs of our target audience and to maximise commercial opportunities for CIPD Enterprises. The jobholder will assist in developing, preparing and sourcing course materials and content for the VLE. All courses and future Certificate programmes need to meet agreed Quality Standards, including internal standards and external Assurance Standards as required. The jobholder is expected to assist in quality controlling short courses and certificate programmes, in terms of content, presentation and administration, to ensure the commercial activities enhance the professional image of the Institute. The jobholder is expected to develop effective relationships with course tutors, online tutors and personal tutors, to promote the CIPD and CIPD brand. The jobholder is also expected to keep abreast of competitor activities, and to work closely with the Business Manager to identify new competitors and possible threats to our portfolio. The jobholder is required to deal with more complex enquiries, including provision of advice to prospective event participants on the most appropriate training programmes. The jobholder will work with the Business Manager to ensure all courses run cost effectively and the portfolio in general comes in on budget. The jobholder will have overall responsibility for commercial tutor requests from the commercial sales team. Requests must be responded to according to agreed SLAs and the job holder should work with Business Managers, when appropriate, to fulfil requests. Previous experience in working in a training environment is essential. Good commercial awareness is essential. The ability to prepare feasibility studies is an advantage. Experience in course design and development is preferred. The jobholder is expected to keep-up-to-date with developments in the field of learning, training and development. Good organisational skills are essential and the ability to work to tight deadlines under pressures. Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills are essentials, together with good customer service skills. The jobholder must be computer literate. The job holder is required to demonstrate appropriate levels of competence and behaviours against CIPD’s six core competencies. These are business awareness, building relationships, continuous improvement and innovation, customer focus, problem solving and decision taking and results-oriented.
