Connecting the Threads
 MRS 101– Venita King, Oakland District Manager
o MRS is ready to work with students in Oakland County through the Transition
Coordinators. Continue to refer your students to MRS through your MRS Counselor.
o Provides a wide variety of individualized services based on the needs of the student.
o Need to be thoughtful about the referrals
o Need ongoing conversation & collaboration with district MRS counselor
o PETS – Pre-Employment Transition Services – services that will provide
employment training/programs before the student exits school.
 MRS MRD – Nacsha Ealy, MRS – Oak Park Office
o Things to think about when referring students to MRS:
 Students need to be Motivated – Reliable – Dependable
o Employment Planning
 Employment Goal/Resume/Strengths/Interests/Interviewing Skills
 Transition 101 – Cathy Schmidt, Oakland Schools
o Transition: Movement to School to Post School Life
o Transition Areas: Education/Training/Employment/Independent Living
o Post Secondary Goals
o Transition Resources – Moodle

o Cash Match Agreement
o Meet one time a year with MRS Counselor and Supervisor. What’s working/not working.
Status update on open/closed cases and status of students.
o Set up meetings w/student, family, MRS counselor - 1 -2 days at each high school
School to Work- Zelda Solomons (Southfield) & Adriza Caesar (MRS)
o Partnership for employment
Transition Mapping – Barb Dean (Birmingham) & Nacsha Ealy (MRS)
o Bring together key players in the focus individual’s life. Roadmap - reating an action plan of
commitments team members make to assist in development of the transition plan.
