INTRODUCTION
Who is the best superhero in the world? Everyone has different
opinions on heroes, like what exactly does it mean to be a hero?
Pure spirit? Good Will? Sacrifice? Can a hero possibly be a villain?
Some would argue that a villain could NEVER be a hero. For villains
there is no redemption. But that’s not true. Especially not for the
hero I have chosen for best superhero in the world. Who is that you
might ask? Well, her name is Natasha Romanoff ,a.k.a Black Widow.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION OPINION
STATEMENT
Natasha Romanoff, formerly known as Natalia Alianovna Romanova ,is a S.H.I.E.L.D
agent and Avenger with a very dark past and an even darker future. Natasha was
first introduced in “Tales of Suspense no. 52” in April of 1954. After her wildly
successful debut, writers of the character decided it would be smart to further
explore the character with her own comic series titled Amazing Adventures in
1971. Unfortunately, the series was cut short due to the lack of interest in it.
Natasha continued to appear in other comic series such as Iron Man, Spider-Man
,and Hawkeye. Later in 2010,the character was introduced to the big screen,
debuting her first on screen role. Romanoff is portrayed by none other than
Scarlett Johansson. Natasha has made several appearances in movies like The
Avengers(2012), Captain America: The Winter Soldier(2014) and Avengers: Age of
Ultron (2015). Johansson will once again portray Natasha in the upcoming
Captain America: Civil War.
OPINION STATEMENT
I believe Natasha Romanoff is the best superhero due to the simple fact that she has
one of the most iconic stories of the 21 st century. With the amount of mystery
surrounding her back story in the movies, questions often surface about when we
will receive an actual Black Widow film. Whether it be an origin story or a movie
surrounding her actual plot line in her current comic book series. I believe
Natasha is one of the most iconic women superheroes of our time and in the
coming slides I will explain why.
REASON 1:QUESTIONABLE LOYALTY
Black Widow has often been watched because of her history as an assassin and
rightfully so due to her hard times adjusting to S.H.I.E.L.D. She was often watched
during missions with the Avengers and even individual missions. Even after
swearing loyalty to S.H.I.E.L.D and proving that she had put her past behind her,
she was still looked at as if she were a ticking time bomb. Like I said, villains
don’t get redemption. These factors about Natasha allowed for storylines that
keep me on the edge of my seat because I don’t know whether to trust Natasha
or to keep my eyes open during the course of the story.
REASON 2:MORE ENEMIES THAN FRIENDS
Black Widow is known for her epic battles with sinister threats like The Hand and
Hydra, and even Captain America’s good friend Bucky Barnes. Widow is enemies
with the likes of Elektra, Daredevil, Deadpool, Wolverine, and even occasionally a
fellow Avenger like Hawkeye. My favorite rivalry of The Black Widow is herself.
Well a clone of herself named Yelena Belova. These battles are often very lively
and suspenseful due to the fact that you are unsure as to who will win because of
the simple fact that Natasha has lost plenty of battles to former threats. These
also help move the plot along well because fans are frightened that they could
lose their beloved Widow any installment, which keeps us at the edge of our seat.
REASON 3:HER BACKSTORY
I’ve said it enough. The Black Widow’s backstory is the most iconic of our time. With
its twists and turns and sick revelations, it never gets old. To this day, fans are still
left wondering about the origins of Natasha and we are still learning about it in
her latest running comic book series.
REFUTATION AND COUNTER ARGUMENT
Now while all this may be true, opposers of the Marvel character would state that the
most iconic female character of all time is Wonder Woman because her backstory
is also very rich and she has super powers. Some would also argue that wonder
woman has a bigger fan base, however this not true. In a number of polls Black
Widow has over scored Wonder Woman and put her at an average deficit of 76%
in each of these polls. And as Natasha grows in popularity, those percentages
continue to increase most recently I took a poll and learned that 86.43 percent of
comic book fans prefer Natasha over Wonder Woman. The reasons left in the
comments include backstory, looks, and current comic series.
CONCLUSION
Finally we have reached the conclusion. The reasons I chose Natasha as best
superhero in the world go as follows: Her questionable loyalty, more friends than
enemies, and her backstory. One more reason would be Scarlett Johansson and
her amazing portrayal of the character. I believe Black Widow is the best
character because she has such good storylines and we as fans are often left on
the edge of our seats as she embarks on missions, fights enemies, and tests her
