Please be prompt. Lab will be held on Saturdays from 11:30 am – 2:20 pm in Room MC-625. Lab will start promptly. Please put your cell phone on vibrate or turn it off. In respect of the instructor and other students, it is expected that your phone not ring during class and that you not have phone conversations during class. Your success in this course weighs heavily on your ability to attend ALL lectures and labs. Missing one class is equivalent to missing an entire week of lectures/labs. You should plan vacations/trips around this course. If you are absent, you should contact the instructor immediately. I will not provide a copy of missed lecture notes…you should get missed notes from a fellow classmate. When lecturing, I sometimes use guided notes…I will provide you a copy of these. However, I do not post Power Point notes on Blackboard. Exams There will be NO make-up for the final exam, vocab exam, or lab exams. If one lecture exam is missed for whatever reason, the make-up will consist of a comprehensive final exam at the end of the semester. The score on the final exam will replace ONE missed regular lecture exam. Any additional missed lecture exams will remain as a zero and cannot be made up. If you know in advance that you are going to be absent on a lecture exam day, the test can be taken in advance (with my permission and with a minimum of four days notice). There will be no make-up for the final exam. If you have not missed any lecture exams, the comprehensive final exam is optional. You can either choose not to take the final, or you may take the final to replace your lowest lecture exam score. If your score on the final is lower than your lowest lecture exam score, your lowest lecture exam score will remain. In other words, taking the final cannot hurt your grade. Laboratory Important directions and safety concerns are addressed at the beginning of each lab. Be prompt to lab or points will be deducted from your lab grade for tardiness. Deductions will be as follows: tardy during first 10 minutes = 3pt deduction; tardy 10-15 minutes = 10pt deduction; tardy by more than 15 minutes (or by more than 5 min on lab exam days) = you will not be allowed to participate in lab and will forfeit all points. When you are finished with your lab you may leave the area, however do not expect to leave early. Students must wear goggles, vinyl/latex gloves and either a lab coat or apron during all specimen/dissection labs. Students not wearing these items will not be allowed to participate in the laboratory and will forfeit all points associated with that laboratory exercise. For safety reasons, no food or drinks are allowed in the laboratory at any time. 2 Grading Grades will be calculated as follows: Comp. Final Exam Pop Quizzes Lecture Exams Vocab Exam Lab Exams Lab Assign/particip 1 @ 100 pts (replace) 10 @ 10 pts each = 100 pts 4 @ 100 pts each = 400 pts 1 @ 100 pts = 100 pts 3 @ 50 pts each = 150 pts 11 @ 10 pts each = 110 Total Points = 860 pts A = 774 – 860 pts B = 688 – 773 pts C = 602 – 687 pts D = 516 – 601 pts F = 0 – 515 pts Grades will be posted to Blackboard (Bb) as they are graded. This enables you to monitor your progress through the course; therefore you are strongly encouraged to check Bb often. Semester grades are calculated by raw point totals, not percentages. I do not round up. General Education Goal Statement & Institutional Statement The General Education Goals are designed to ensure that graduates of Tulsa Community College have the skills, knowledge, and attitudes to carry them successfully through their work and their personal lives. Each student is responsible for being aware of the information contained in the TCC Catalog, TCC Student Handbook, TCC Student Code of Conduct Policy Handbook, and semester information listed in the Class Schedule. Failure to Withdraw Policy Failure to withdraw may result in the student’s receiving a regular grade of “F” at the end of the semester. Plagiarism Policy Plagiarism is claiming, indicating, or implying that the ideas, sentences, or words of another writer are your own; it includes having another writer do work claimed to be your own, copying the work of another and presenting it as your own, or following the work of another as a guide to ideas and expression that are then presented as your own. The student should review the relevant sections of the TCC Student Code of Conduct Policy Handbook. Academic Dishonesty or Misconduct Academic dishonesty or misconduct is not condoned nor tolerated at campuses within the TCC system. Academic dishonesty is behavior in which a deliberately fraudulent misrepresentation is employed in an attempt to gain undeserved intellectual credit, either for oneself or for another. Academic misconduct is behavior that results in intellectual advantage obtained by violating specific standard, but without deliberate intent or use of fraudulent means. The student should review the relevant sections of the TCC Student Code of Conduct Policy Handbook. 3 **Always be aware of how your body language could be perceived (especially when testing). Looking off of someone else’s paper, having notes out during a test, or any other form of cheating will not only result in a zero, but can lead to dismissal from the course and/or college and noted in your academic record. You should avoid academic dishonesty at all costs! DISABILITY RESOURCES: It is the policy and practice of Tulsa Community College to create inclusive learning environments. Accommodations for qualifying students in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act are available.
