Grade C
All will be able
to list at least
four reasons
why people
should care for
the
environment
We have listed reasons as to
why people should care for
the environment – but what
about Christians?
Christians would agree with the
reasons we have already
listed but unlike non-religious
people they believe there are
further reasons to care for
the environment and help with
environmental issues.
Some Christians may join
organisations that work to
help the environment.
(SEE HOMEWORK TASK FOR
FURTHER INFORMATION)
Draw the following table in the back of your books...
Job title
What is their
responsibilities?
Complete the table using the following pictures.
BONUS question – what do they all have in common
(I’m looking for a WORD )
What do all these jobs
have in common?
Christians believe that
human beings are
STEWARDS of the
earth and this effects
how they view and treat
the environment.
There are 4 main concepts at the heart of
Christian teachings on the environment.
Having a duty to do
or be held
accountable for
something.
The act of creating
the universe.
STEWARDSHIP
RESPONSIBILITY
AUTHORITY/DOMINION
CREATION
Looking after
something so it can
be passed on to the
next generation.
The power or right
of governing and
controlling.
Write down what you think each of these words
mean.
Now write what how each of these words LINK to
Christian views on the ENVIRONMENT.
STEWARDSHIP:
Humans are looking after the earth for God – they
are temporary keepers and so must ensure they
return it in the condition God would want.
RESPONSIBILITY:
God has given human beings the gift of the
world and they have a duty to ensure it is
passed on to future generations.
AUTHORITY/DOMINION:
Humans are in charge of the natural world.
Some see this as meaning they can therefore
do as they want with the world as it belongs
to them.
CREATION:
God created the world and everything in it –
humans must therefore show respect and
protect God’s creation.

Many people have risked the lives
fighting for causes such as
GREENPEACE!
Christians believe this is WRONG.
They believe that although the
environment is important human
beings are the most important part of
God’s creation. Although conservation
and protection of the environment is
vital it should not come at the
expense of people.
Do you agree?
Complete question 3 on p68 of

How do you think a Christian would respond
