12-2 DNA Replication The DNA Double Helix DNA Replication the process by which DNA makes a copy of itself occurs during interphase, prior to cell division each new cell receives a copy of the DNA The 2 strands of DNA are complementary. T always pairs with A G always pairs with C Steps of DNA Replication 1. DNA helicase (enzyme) unwinds the DNA. The junction between the unwound part and the open part is called a replication fork. 2. DNA polymerase adds the complementary nucleotides. Steps (continued) 3. DNA polymerase adds complementary nucleotides on the other side of the ladder. 4. DNA polymerase goes back and proofreads the DNA strands. Fixes errors in DNA sequence. http://www.stolaf.edu/people/giannini/flashanimat/molgenetics/dna-rna2.swf You Tube video 1 min. clip Bozeman Biology Video
