Courtney Blondin Liz Kubik Josh Limp Ajay Rao Our Hypothesis & Research Question Dependant Variable: What general feelings do students have about U.I.C? Students Overall Happiness with UIC Experience How can U.I.C improve what it offers to benefit students? How do students feel about their overall U.I.C experience? The League of Extraordinary Marketers Primary Research Question How happy are UIC Students? How satisfied are students with the U.I.C community? How satisfied are students with U.I.C academic services? How happy are students with the U.I.C social setting? Our Research Methodology After formulating the research questions and hypotheses, we did the following: Created a survey on Qualtrics Pretested survey with a small test group The League of Extraordinary Marketers Distributed survey to UIC students via Blackboard, email and Facebook Gathered and reviewed (62*) results. Evaluated using SPSS and Excel * 64 total surveys were returned. Data from 62 responses were used. The League of Extraordinary Marketers Accept H0 Our Correlations I have made important relationships at U.I.C I feel a part of U.I.C I enjoy the UIC campus • Pearson Correlation: .761 • Significant at .001 level • Pearson Correlation: .528 • Significant at .001 level I like going to school in the City of Chicago I enjoy the UIC Campus • Pearson Correlation: .464 • Significant at .001 level The League of Extraordinary Marketers Social Scene Happiness Most correlations are between independent variables are significant Our T-Tests Several factors go into making a student happy at a university Measure happiness with Likert Scale Questions We hypothesized positive correlations between variables and happiness Does class standing affect happiness? H0: µ1=µ2 Ha: µ1≠µ2 Our sig. value shows that we cannot reject H0 The League of Extraordinary Marketers and their means are not different enough to be considered significant Our Regression Analysis We believe U.I.C happiness is a function of the following 10 variables: Regression: 70.8% of variation in dependant variable is explained by the independent variables ANOVA: Value of .000 indicates that there is a significant linear relationship between dependant and independent variable at the 99% confidence level The League of Extraordinary Marketers • Social scene happiness • I enjoy the UIC campus • I feel a part of UIC • I like going to school in the city of Chicago • “Richness” of major courses • Professors are likeable people • Made important relationships at UIC • I find professors are likeable people • UIC has a good reputation • UIC technology helps me learn No VIF values over 10, so no co-linearity, therefore no variables were removed Backwards regression shows variables found in original regression are most impactful Recommendations from Respondents “Having more study areas and accommodating them with computers” “Better communication between faculty, staff, students” “…Cut down on bureaucracy.” “Renovate buildings on campus” The League of Extraordinary Marketers Actual responses to an optional, open ended, question in our survey “Dorms that are more affordable. More student housing. Larger University Village for students.” “Better advising” “U.I.C needs to engage students better…Spark in the Park was fantastic…more like that.” Our Recommendations Review Evaluation Implementation Repetition • We would like to suggest that U.I.C follow a model for gathering student thoughts and feelings as we have in this pilot study • Further, we would like to suggest that U.I.C take results into account and treat them with respect and importance • If findings are consistent and significant, we would like U.I.C to implement changes reflective of survey results • Studies of this nature should by no means be one-time. Ideally, we suggest that U.I.C ask students to participate in an annual survey review of the university and their experience The League of Extraordinary Marketers Any Questions? What do you think of our findings? What makes you happy to attend U.I.C? What would make you happier? Additional thoughts or feedback? The League of Extraordinary Marketers
