Welcome to Mrs. Tsukamoto and Miss Stevens’ 2nd Grade Classroom We hope you enjoy the show! Mrs. Tsukamoto My background • Graduated from Rutgers University, New Brunswick with a Bachelors degree in Psychology and worked in the business world for six years. • Earned my Masters Degree in Elementary Education and Reading/ Language Arts from Rider University. • Hold a certificate as a Reading Specialist • Married eleven years, with a 4 year old son, Alex, a one year old daughter, Amelia. My experience • This is my tenth year teaching. • Fifth year in the district. • First year at Woodmont • Taught a variety of different grades. Miss Stevens • My background - Born in Somerset, Pennsylvania - Graduated from Montclair State University, Bachelors degree in Family and Child Studies, with a concentration in Elementary Education, K-5th grade. - Received my masters in Special Education in May 2014 from MSU • My experience - This is my seventh year teaching at Woodmont School. - Director for MEDLC at Woodmont Our Goals • Team Teach: We have responsibility for all the students. We plan together and make our lessons accessible for each individual student • Have our students grow intellectually to the best of their own personal abilities! • Create a fun and welcoming learning environment Subjects • Flexible Math Group: Addition and Subtraction, Money, Two and Three digit addition and subtraction, Geometry and Fractions, Telling time, and numbers to the 1,000. • Reading: Close reading, guided reading level based on child’s abilities • Writing Workshop: Narrative, Informative, Opinion and Poetry • Grammar: Sentences, nouns, verbs, adjectives, capitalization and punctuation. Subjects Continued • Fundations: vowel teams, controlled R, suffixes/ prefixes, blends, digraphs, glued sounds, open syllables, • Science: plants, animals, weather, seasons, dinosaurs, matter and energy, and space. • Social Studies: government, geography, resources, long ago and far away, world cultures, and marketplace. Tasty Traveling Tuesdays • Starting in October! • Flat Stanley book series will travel around the world! • We will explore the culture and cuisine from adventures Flat Stanley embarks on. YUMMY =) • Students will receive a Flat Stanley passport which they will write in based on where they travel. • Please fill out the brochure on the Tasty Traveling Tuesday Specials • Monday: Media (Remember your library books) • Tuesday: Art (Remember smocks) • Wednesday: Physical Education ( Remember sneakers) • Thursday: Art (Remember smocks) • Friday: Music Classroom Community - Message/ Journal Calendar Rules- PawPrints Instant Alert I can and quote of the day • Classroom Management -DoJo - Treasure Box Behavior management • Marbles • Stars • Each group can earn marbles based on good team work. They also earn by working hard together. • Once a group receives ½ jar they can choose from a prize (lunch with teachers, special snack, prize bin) • Group names are decided based on the children. • Groups are changed every marking period. • • • • Each student starts their day on green When warnings are given, but are not followed through, the child them self will move to yellow If the behavior continues, the child will go to red and parents are contacted. If a child shows wonderful behavior, helps a friend or gives a random act of kindness they will move their star to the rainbow hot air balloon. Parents will also be notified of this achievement! Whole Class • When students are walking in the hallway quietly, receive a compliment from another teacher or the principal, or exhibited good behavior, the class earns a link or Dojo point. • This link is started on the top of the board. Once it reaches the bottom, the class will receive a prize! • This includes: extra recess, pizza party, or movie time. Homework • Consist of math and spelling every night with 15 minutes of reading. • If your child is having an extremely hard time finishing the homework, or is taking a long time to complete, please contact us! • PLEASE initial the assignment pad each night. We might leave you a note or you can leave us a note. If you send in food, all the ingredients must be visible, per the nurses request! Please adhere to the nurse’s letter on food allergies in our class • Please send in your child’s smock and indoor recess bag if you haven’t done so already! For indoor recess, please no technology or valuable items. More reminders.. • Please visit the PTA website in order to see our Welcome to Woodmont Book! • Conference sign up is in the back! We will remind you a week before of your time/date! • Tasty Traveling Tuesday- please look at the brochure and order form for passport/journal also found on the back table. • Multiple Intelligences- this form will be sent via email. • Each month we will send out a scholastic order form.
