Science Research Course Application
Please complete the following essays. Each essay should be limited to 300
words and should include specific examples. Please include a word count.
The essays are to be submitted to Mr. Gregorio Maceri at MTHS by
8:30 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2013.
1. Scientific Attitude
What have you done that demonstrates your scientific attitude? Do you discriminate between
pertinent and non-pertinent evidence in solving a problem? Do you "try it and see?" What is your
approach to solving a problem?
2. Curiosity
What ideas, devices or creations have particularly attracted your attention and what have you
done to pursue them?
3. Inventiveness
Have you ever made a discovery that was exciting and new to you? How did it come about and
what was it? Have you ever produced an idea or experiment that was new to everyone? Describe
it and the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
4. Initiative
What have you done outside your school curriculum that shows initiative? How did you pursue
these activities, what difficulties did you encounter, and how did you handle them?
5. Work Habits
Do you plan your work in advance? Are you more interested in the overall planning of a project,
or in specific details? What factors influence your priorities? How do you accommodate
unforeseen circumstances in your work?
