• The exam is 1hr 15mins
• Section A : 45mins ( 1 question comparing 2
poems) 36 marks (67%)
• Section B: 30mins (1 question analysing and
unseen poem 18 marks (33%)
• Check your timing throughout the exam
How you are assessed
• Both sections of the exam: AO1 and AO2
• Section A : AO1, AO2 and AO3 (compare)
• AO1: your response to the poems using quotes from
the poems to support your ideas. Think about how
other readers might interpret the poems
• AO2: write about writers’ methods:
language/structure/form
• AO3: compare what the poems are about and the ways
in which they are written

• then compare….
• PEEL 2nd poem
• Do not makes points without supporting with a quotation –
embed/focus on a specific word and its impact
• Detailed interpretation of the language/method is

show sophistication
