Radiology Technology • Introduces students to the field of medical imaging – Anatomy and physiology – Osteology – Radiation protection – Physics of ionizing energy Radiology Technology • Clinical observation sites – Inova Loudoun Outpatient Imaging – Inova Loudoun Emergency Room – Loudoun Spine & Orthopedics • Certification – Beginning January 2015, per the ARRT, an associates degree is required for certification as a radiology technologist Medical Laboratory Technology • Prepares students to begin their studies in the field of medical laboratory technologies – Microbiology – Hematology – Immunology – Phlebotomy – Immunohematology – Clinical Chemistry – Urinalysis Medical Laboratory Technology • Certification available through the National Healthcare Association (NHA) – Medical Laboratory Assistant Certification (CMLA) – Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT) (requires 30 ‘live’ venipuncture sticks) • MLT (Medical Laboratory Technologist) must have an associates degree in order to sit for the registry • MLS (Medical Laboratory Scientist) must have a bachelor of science in order to sit for the registry Pharmacy Technology • Prepares students to become credentialed as a pharmacy technician – National or State Certification • Areas of work for pharmacy technician – Retail pharmacy – Hospital pharmacy – Homecare or managed care pharmacies Pharmacy Technology • Area of studies – Medical terminology – Calculations – Routes and formulations – Biopharmaceutics – Compounding – Different pharmacy settings Licensed Practical Nursing • Prepares students to become LPN – Nutrition – Growth and development – Nursing fundamentals – Medication administration – Anatomy and physiology – Nursing skills • Students will be eligible for licensure by the Virginia Department of Nursing
