The Course
Unit 1- Dynamic Planet. This is a 1 hour and 15 minute exam about the physical topics in Geography.
Restless earth, Climate and change, Battle of the biosphere, Water world, Changing coastlines and
Oceans on the Edge are assessed in this unit.
Unit 2- People and the Planet. This is a 1 hour and 15 minute exam about human geography. Topics
studied are population, consuming resources, globalisation, development issues, changing
settlements in the UK and challenges facing an urban world
Unit 3- Making Geographical decisions. This is a comprehensive assessment which involves using a
resource booklet of maps, photos and graphs. This is a 1 hour and 30 minute examination.
Unit 4- Researching Geography. This will be completed by the end of this half term (April). The
finished report will be made up of a maximum of 2000 words and is worth 25% of the final GCSE
result.

Unit 1 Tues 13th May (13:00-14:15)
Unit 2 Thurs 22nd May (09:00-10:15)
Unit 3 Fri 6th June (09:00-10:30)

Revision Techniques
 VISUAL techniques – use mind maps. COLOUR is also important as an additional way that
your brain remembers – use highlighters.
 ORAL techniques – try speaking as you learn or even recording yourself.
 Use MNEMONICS – take the first letters of a list of words you need to learn.
 TESTING – get others to test you on your notes.
 FILE CARDS are useful for summarising topics, particularly case studies and keywords

Write using a black ball point pen
* means your spelling, grammar and punctuation (SPaG) will be assessed (3 marks per question)
Answer All of SECTION A on Unit 1 and Unit 2, but select ONE QUESTION from sections B and C.
Answer ALL of the questions on Unit 3.
Unit 1 and 2 are 1 hour and 15 minutes long
Unit 3 examination is 1 hour and 30 minutes long.
Read the questions VERY CAREFULLY
Refer to figures (numbers) when answering a question about a graph
If it is a 4-mark question THINK 2 points which you develop with the word ‘because’ or ‘so’
