Facebook: Our social media presence isn’t bad, but I’ve noticed that post on the
RESS page get a ton more views and interactions if they are shared to the RyEng
or other groups. So I would really appreciate people taking a second to share
posts from the page in other engineering groups they are in, or on their own
wall. Also, please share the 2019 group as much as possible, so it can be a
central hub for new incoming first years. I’ve also set it up so that any RESS
Facebook posts are automatically tweeted, so when that happens if people can
use their Twitter to help share it to that would be fantastic.
Twitter: I gave everyone the login for the RESS Twitter account in an email a few
weeks back. However, I’m the only one really using it at all. It would be nice to
see other people Tweeting things occasionally. For instance, the ESSCO AGM
would have been a great place to send a few tweets from, share some pictures,
etc. Since I won’t be in town until August, and there will be events and such
between now and then, I’d really appreciate people using the Twitter
occasionally.
Handbook: I have 3 people currently working on the handbook, which is fine for
now but if anyone wants to help out feel free to shoot me an email. I will need a
few things from BoD though. I need each director to write a short article about
their program. It should answer the question of “What is _____ engineering”,
take a look at last years to get an idea. I’d also like each director to get in touch
with their programs course union and get them to submit a short blurb about
the course union. Try to get them to keep it to about 50 words or less. I need
each of the execs to submit a much more informal, somewhat amusing blurb
then what we posted on the website. If you want to use the same one as the
website I will, but it’s not as friendly to the first years. Finally, I need you,
Harrsan, to submit a “Presidents Message”. I’m sure you’ll figure it out.

Student Engagement: For anyone who didn’t see, I recently opened up a form
on the RESS Facebook page, and will be adding it to the website soon as well.
The point of the form is that any student group or someone hosting an event
can submit it to me, and if it involves or promotes engineering in some way I will
promote it with the RESS social media and potentially include it in the weekly
emails once school starts. What I’d like BoD to do is just spread it around to any
groups they are a part of and think would be interested. The idea behind it is to
really build student involvement and engagement past what it’s been in
previous years.
Loose ends: For anyone who hasn’t yet, please update the website address in
your email signature to www.ress.ca and just remove the old ryeng one. I’d also
suggest putting either a professional picture of yourself or the RESS logo as your
profile picture on your email, just because it looks better and projects
yourself/RESS more. Oh, and please check your emails occasionally, I’m still
waiting on website blurbs from some people.
