Think of one example of a “Command Word” What is a “Key word” and why are they important? Peer Assessment • I can review my progress and use this to develop my work. We are learning to understand how climate has changed in the recent past. What I’m looking for is a labelled graph and description of temperature change. 1(a). Crust, Mantle, Outer core, Inner core. 3 marks (b) The Mantle moves because it is hot so the Tectonics Plate above move. 1 mark The convection currents in the Mantle, powered by the heat from the Core, mean that the Tectonic Plates of the Earth’s crust will move. 2 marks c. 1-2 marks: Brief explanation of one plate sinking beneath another plate. This leads to friction and earthquakes are produced. 3-4 marks: Detailed explanation of denser Oceanic plate sinking beneath the Continental plate. Creates friction and sudden movement releases energy which is felt as an earthquake. Could give a location or example e.g. South America and the Nazca Plate. 2 (a). 1 mark for pointing out that they are mostly found on plate boundaries. 2 marks for describing that most are found around the pacific plate or that there is an unusual volcano location in the middle of the Pacific plate. (b) 1 mark each up to 2 marks for: Steep sided Made of alternate layers of ash and lava Andesitic or sticky lava Explosive eruptions (c) 1 – 2 marks Brief explanation about two plates moving apart and lava escaping and cooling to form a volcano. 3 – 4 marks Detailed explanation of Oceanic plate moving apart which allows Magma to move through cracks or fissures onto the Earth’s surface where, as lava it cools and creates dome shaped shallow sloped volcano. Could name a place or example e.g. Mid-Atlantic ridge. 3 (a) Landslide Building collapsed Walls collapsed Roof collapsed (b) Built on a slope Built in an LEDC so might have poor construction. (c) 1- 2 marks Brief statements of different strategies e.g. improve building design, provide emergency aid such as food and water. Little or no explanation. Possible reference to an example. 3-4 marks Makes reference to LEDCs and the impact this has on effects of earthquakes. Links possible strategies to the problems they solve. e,.g. Tents would be provided for the people made homeless due to buildings collapsing. Explanation of the need for both short term and long term aid. Good use of case study such as Bam.
