(2003): Beneath the Mask: An Introduction to Theories of Personality, 7th Edition, Wiley Other materials, readings and journal articles will be provided by the instructor. Objectives The course will provide students with a mastery of the various concepts and their interrelationships within each personality theory as well as with an appreciation of their empirical bases and their values and limitations. The major applications of each theory will be presented and discussed. (Prerequisite: PSY 301) Learning outcomes To learn personality theories To be able to evaluate each personality theory on refutability, activity/passivity and idiographic/ nomothetic dimensions To be able to compare and contrast personality theories based on their view of human agency and development of psychopathology Course format Class meets twice a week for total of three hours. Class time primarily will be spent on introduction of the day’s topic and discussion. All students are required to read the assigned chapters before they come to the class meetings. Course requirements Attendence and class participation 2 Mid-term examinations Final examination Attendance All students are required to attend all scheduled classes. Students with more than 30% of the classes (thirteen (13) hours of absences) will not receive an evaluation. Class participation Active and meaningful participation in class discussions are expected. Mid-term examination 1st mid-term examination assesses the knowledge gained in the first half of the course. Final examination Final examination, assessing the overall knowledge gained in the course, covering all of the chapters in the books, class discussions and all other assignments.
