You will discover how some of the greatest artists over the centuries have developed their ideas through still life. You have been asked to generate a portfolio exploring meanings within objects. This will be used as research material to support a final piece. Being able to get you ideas across is a core skill in the art and design industry and there are techniques and skills in 2D visual communication that are used across drawing, painting, digital work, textiles and printmaking that will help you do this. This assignment introduces you to using skills that will help you to best record and communicate your ideas visually. You will look at still life in all its different states and explore, experiment with and apply mark-making skills to represent it. You should use a range of art and design materials including pencils, pastels, oil pastels, watercolour pencils, pencil colours, batik and felt tips. You will also begin to look at several other artists and how they have tackled representing still life exploring the materials and processes they have used.
