COURSE OUTLINE AND SYLLABUS FOR GLOBAL HISTORY

“ALL STUDENTS MUST PASS THE NEW YORK STATE REGENTS EXAMINATION.” –NYSED
COURSE OVERVIEW:
OVER THE SPAN OF THIS YEAR, STUDENTS WILL COMPLETE THE SECOND HALF OF GLOBAL
HISTORY & GEOGRAPHY. FOR MOST STUDENTS THE FIRST HALF OF THIS COURSE WAS
COMPLETED IN 9TH GRADE. AT THE END OF THIS SCHOOL YEAR ALL STUDENTS WILL TAKE A
REGENTS EXAMINATION THAT COVERS BOTH 9TH AND 10TH GRADE MATERIAL AND IS
REQUIRED FOR GRADUATION. THE PASSING OF THIS TEST IS REQUIRED FOR COURSE
CREDIT AND IS 20% OF THE STUDENT’S OVERALL GRADE. THE TOPICS SPAN THE
INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION TO CURRENT EVENTS. SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE
COURSE REQUIRES THAT STUDENTS UNDERSTAND CONNECTIONS BETWEEN PAST AND
PRESENT AND GEOGRAPHY AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT.
COURSE CONTENT FOCUSES ON
READING, WRITING, AND IMPROVING ALL OTHER HIGHER ORDER THINKING SKILLS.
GRADING POLICIES:
ALL STUDENTS MUST PASS THE REGENTS EXAMINATION. STUDENTS ARE PREPARED BY
TAKING REGENTS BASED TESTS FOR EACH CONTENT UNIT. IN ORDER TO PROPERLY REFLECT
A GRADE FOR EACH STUDENT, THE FOLLOWING IS THE TEST PERCENTAGE:
70%
ALL STUDENTS MUST FULFILL THEIR RESPONSIBILITY AS A PARTICIPANT IN THE CLASS,
THEREFORE QUIZZES AND HOMEWORK WILL BE THE FOLLOWING:
30%
HOMEWORK POLICY: STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE 1 TO 2 HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS PER
WEEK. THEY ARE TO BE COMPLETED USING OUR ONLINE TEXTBOOK.

DEVICE. IF YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE CONSTANT AND RELIABLE INTERNET ACCESS, A
TEXTBOOK WILL BE LOANED TO YOU THE DAYS OF THE ASSIGNMENT. LATE HOMEWORK
WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR 50% CREDIT UP UNTIL THE DAY OF THE UNIT EXAMINATION.
CLASSROOM POLICY: ORDER WILL BE MAINTAINED, RESPECT WILL BE GIVEN AND

CELL PHONE POLICY: YOU MAY NOT USE YOUR PHONE FOR ANY REASON DURING CLASS, IF
YOU SHOULD NOT FOLLOW THIS RULE, EVEN ONCE, THE CELLPHONE WILL BE STORED ON
THE TEACHER’S DESK FOR THE PERIOD. IF YOU BELIEVE YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY USE OF
A PHONE WILL BE PROVIDED TO YOU.
ATTENTION POLICY: THERE WILL BE FIVE TO TWENTY MINUTES OF TEACHER DIRECTED
LESSONS, YOU MUST BE ALERT FULLY DURING THIS TIME PERIOD. GROUP WORK AND
INDIVIDUAL WORK IN CLASS WILL HAVE COMPLETION GOALS THAT WILL COUNT AS
HOMEWORK GRADES.
LATENESS AND ATTENDANCE
LATENESS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. IF A STUDENT MAINTAINS POOR ATTENDANCE THEY
MAY FAIL FOR THE YEAR.
