POSITION CONTEXT
Genazzano FCJ College is a Catholic Girls’ College in the Ignatian tradition established in Kew in
1889 by the Sisters, Faithful Companions of Jesus. Genazzano is a Day and Boarding College,
providing a nurturing yet challenging environment for over 1100 young women from Preparatory to
Year 12. The College also operates a co-educational Early Learning Centre for 3 and 4 year old
children. As a community of faith, we aim to instil in each of our students a passion for life, a love of
learning and the courage and confidence to serve others.
The Finance Manager is responsible to the Business Manager for the effective day to day
administration of the financial affairs and services of the College.
The Business Manager is responsible to the Principal for the management of the non-academic
services of the College, including finance, administration, IT, Property, Grounds, Master Planning and
Risk/Legal Management.
POSITION OVERVIEW
To take responsibility for the sound administration of the financial functions of the College and its
associated entities, including the DGR Funds, Boarding House, Uniform Shop, Alumnae Association
and Aquatics Club, and the delivery of a comprehensive range of best practice financial management
and accounting services.
Accountable to the Business Manager for the development of a strategic approach to the overall
financial management and operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Management of the Business Unit


In accordance with the College’s Strategic Plan, develop appropriate and associated key
performance indicators for the Finance Team
Prepare quarterly reports against the Strategic Plan’s key performance indicators
Management of Finance Staff






Provide strong and effective leadership to the Finance Office team which promotes and nurtures
a customer focus and a flexible and supportive approach
Develop and mentor staff
Maintain a culture of performance, professionalism and continuous improvement within the
Finance Office, including:

Developing realistic performance goals and accountability mechanisms;

Reviewing performance and providing feedback;

When appropriate, assist the Business Manager in implementing performance
management strategies to correct under performance
Ensure Finance staff understand the College’s strategic objectives
Establish and keep under review finance processes, functions and internal controls in relation to
the College and its associated entities and ensure that the relevant processes and procedures are
fully documented and regularly reviewed
Promote and implement the principles of equal opportunity, occupational health, welfare and
safety and ensuring that the team operates within the provisions of associated legislation.
Financial Reporting and Budgets








Prepare the College’s and associated entities monthly finance reports
Ensure all Government Funding reporting requirements are completed
Undertake the ad hoc development of business cases, projects and reports as required by the
Business Manager
Prepare monthly reports and analyses for management and governance and prepare the final
reports including accompanying commentary
Responsible for the preparation of the College’s and associated entities annual financial
statements
Plan the annual budget process and direct and oversee the preparation of department annual
budgets for consideration by the Business Manager, Principal and College Council’s Finance
Committee.
Provide support to the development of 10 year business plan and amend plan annually to ensure
actual results are recorded and changes to forecasts are considered formally
Undertake analysis of periodical reporting and prepare advice on variance to forecasts and
impacts on 10 year business plan.
Financial Services





Provide support and advice to the Business Manager and Principal in respect of financial and
accounting matters
Provide support and advice to other Team Leaders and Positions of Leadership in respect of
financial and accounting matters
Ensure that the Business Manager is fully informed and appraised of financial matters to enable
that person to represent financial matters at senior management and governance levels
Maintain a high customer focus and emphasis on client service delivery in the carrying out of all
functions
Assist the Business Manager in the management of the full range of the College’s insurance
policies including student accident insurance




Responsible for the payroll process for all staff on a fortnightly basis and associated periodical
period reports and processes
Oversee the management of the College’s salary packaging program
Liaise with the College Banker on a regular basis in respect of transactional, investment,
electronic and credit based banking matters
Supervise second hand resources trading operations, including the Uniform Shop and Annual
Book Sale.
Compliance


Ensure that the College meets its compliance obligations in respect of all areas of operation and
responsibility, including Annual Statutory Accounts, monthly BAS, FBT, etc.
Liaise with external auditors and oversee annual audit reviews.
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential















Degree level qualification in Accounting
Professional designation of Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant
(ICA)
Significant accounting and management experience at a senior level in a diversified medium or
large size corporation/enterprise or within government (no less than three years) and a sound
understanding of accrual accounting principles
Experience in the preparation of annual and periodic financial statements to meet the
requirements of Australian Accounting Standards and conform to General/Special Purpose
Accounting Requirements
Experience in the preparation of financial management reports and cash flow projections
Advanced computer literacy skills and knowledge of integrated computerised financial
management and spreadsheet applications
Demonstrated experience in formulating an annual budget for a medium to large organisation
A sound working knowledge of investing and trading in listed securities and preparation of
associated financial reports and annual accounts
Demonstrated experience in strategic or business planning, including goal setting and
establishing key performance indicators (KPI’s)
Demonstrated and contemporary people management skills, preferably gained from both
experience and formal study
Ability to work under limited direction, self motivated and capable of achieving agreed targets
and performance indicators
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment with strong communication
skills
Proven customer service focus, with an ability to identify and respond appropriately to customer
needs and concerns
Proven commitment to continuous improvement and service excellence, with a positive attitude
to change, new ideas and innovation
Knowledge of GST, PAYG, FBT and other taxation issues.
