CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR THE 2016 CUMU CONFERENCE
The 22nd Annual Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities Conference will be hosted at the
Renaissance Washington, DC Downtown Hotel from October 23-25, 2016. This year’s theme, Charting
the Future of Metropolitan Universities, will examine our changing cities and communities and our role,
responsibility, and charge to meet the needs of our students, community, employees, and partners.
The deadline to submit a proposal is April 25, 2016. To submit a proposal you will be required to log into
your existing CUMU account or create a new account. If you currently receive CUMU email
communications, you have an online account associated with your email address. Once your proposal is
submitted you will be unable to edit it yourself. Any necessary revisions can be sent by email to Tyler
Howard at cumu@towson.edu (please use the subject line “2016 Call for Proposals Revision”).
We have included the questions from the submission form below to facilitate any planning or
communication necessary before submitting your final proposal on our website. Fields marked with an

Session Format
Monday evening’s poster session offers an opportunity to present your work in an informal setting that
encourages one-on-one conversation and networking.
30-minute presentations will be grouped together with another relevant 30 minute presentation in a
session. Fifteen additional minutes are allotted for Q&A. A maximum of 4 people can participate as
speakers in a 30 minute presentation.
20-minute presentations will be grouped together with two additional 20-minute presentations in a
session. Fifteen additional minutes are allotted for Q&A. A maximum of 2 people can participate as
speakers in one 20-minutes session.

Which one best fits your presentation?
Thinking Big/Dialogue sessions will be focused on engaging discussion or exercises that delve into
relevant issues/questions. The style or presentation might be a facilitated conversation rather than a
PowerPoint presentation.
How-To sessions will be about process/infrastructure/policy. Attendees can expect to walk away from
this presentation with a clear set of next steps.
Proven Programs sessions are informal in nature. Presenters will share case studies of
projects/partnerships/programs that are working at their institution.
