If you're a geoscientist looking for a new challenge, consider this role where you will work with a team
of geoscientists and other professionals to assist in planning, coordinating, administering and delivering
ministry and government policies, practices and procedures concerning minerals-related aspects of land
use planning.
What can I expect to do in this role?
You will also:
• represent the ministry's interests in land use planning for Crown and private lands by participating on
committees and at public information sessions
• monitor and comment on land use policy development and implementation and liaise with nongovernmental agencies on land use and minerals related activities
• provide training and prepare various written materials.
Please indicate which position(s) you are applying for:
• 1 permanent position located at 435 James Street South, Thunder Bay.
• 1 temporary position located at 5520 Highway 101 East, South Porcupine, however, consideration will
be given to having the successful candidate work out of the Kirkland Lake or Sudbury office.
How do I qualify?
Mandatory requirements:
• You are currently certified or eligible for certification as a Professional Geoscientist in the province of
Ontario.
• You possess a valid driver's licence to conduct field work and ability to travel and work irregular hours.
Specialized knowledge:
• demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and experience related to geoscience and mineral
exploration principles and practices
Communication, interpersonal and people skills:
• demonstrated oral and written communication skills, including effective interpersonal, consultation,
negotiation, and presentation skills
Other important skills:
• proven reasoning and analytical skills to help develop and implement new regulations, policies,
practices, and procedures
• proven research and evaluation skills to research and assess provincial legislation, regulations and
policies pertaining to private and Crown lands
• demonstrated ability to identify critical factors in work-related situations and make informed
recommendations based on research and analysis
• ability to operate word-processing, database, spreadsheet and digital presentation computer
applications, and to at least understand the value and usage of GIS based data management systems
