THE OUTLINE An outline is a PLAN for your speech. It is written in the form of a list divided into headings and subheadings that distinguish main points from supporting points. Conclusion Put your Roman Numerals the furthest left on the outline. DO NOT let Microsoft Word format your outline Capital Letters for EACH STEP of the PROCESS A. Use as many letters as you need B. Tab in once so that the letters are indented from the Roman Numerals C. Try putting each step on a different notecard D. Etc E. Etc Arabic Numbers for Sub-points under each main point A. Use as many letters as you need 1. This is the first part of the step 2. This is the second part of the step B. Tab in once so that the letters are indented from the Roman Numerals 1. Tab in twice so that the numbers are indented from the upper case letters 2. If you use a 1, you must have a 2 Lower-case letters for Sub-sub-points under sub-points A. Use as many letters as you need 1. This is the first part of the step a. You probably won’t need many of these b. Tab in three times so the lower case letters are indented from the Arabic numbers c.
