Narrative Summary
After interviewing my school principal, Dr. Nelloms and I decided to allow me to go to
training on how to use the Georgia Online Assessment System and re-delivery to the faculty and
staff at Knollwood Elementary School. I conducted a technology workshop on effectively using
the Georgia Online Assessment website at Knollwood Elementary School on Thursday,
November 14, 2013. This training’s target audience is the third grade teachers, fourth grade
teachers, fifth grade teachers, and interrelated teachers. This website is designed for teachers to
create practice tests to better help the students pass the Criterion Reference Competency Test
(CRCT). At the end of this training workshop, the participants will complete a short survey
about using the website.
Knight’s Strategies
This semester, I read the book called Instructional Coaching “A Partnership Approach to
Improving Instruction” by Jim Knight. In chapter six, Knight explains how to effectively model
a concept to people. His theory is to show and demonstrate how to use the concept first and then
allow the teachers or participants to use the new concept. In my training workshop, I did model
to the teachers how to use the website www.georgiaoas.org, how to create classes, and make
practice tests and exams. This is a great resource for students to improve their chances on
making a passing score on the Criterion Referenced Competency Test (CRCT).

I feel that my one hour workshop on the Georgia Online Assessment System was very
successful. From the data, I had seven teachers gain knowledge from my workshop to use the
website effectively and by themselves. This was very successful in my book. The two teachers
who had some challenges in using the GOAS website stayed behind after the workshop and I
gave them one on one instruction so they can feel comfortable in using the website and teaching
their students to effectively use GOAS. This opportunity allowed me to enhanced my skills as
an instructional technology coach. I believe that I used all of the strategies that were given in
Jim Knight’s book to help me to be successful in my one hour training workshop. The next
step for me is to monitor the teachers’ and students’ usage of the Georgia Online Assessment
System. Dekalb County School System wants all teachers to provide a usage monitoring report
to the principals and the coordinator of GOAS at the end of each month. The state of Georgia
paid millions of dollars to create this valuable resource for students to use and to improve their
chances to be successful on the Criterion Referenced Competency Test!
