The last international conference was held at the 50 University of San Jose Recoletos in Cebu City with Stephen 51 Krashen as the Keynote speaker in December 2013, thus, the next 1 international conference has to be conducted in 2016. 2 The following was decided by the group: 3 Venue: NIP, UP diliman or Faculty Center, UP 4 5 Date: December 1 - 3, 2016 6 Theme: to adopt the same theme 21st Century Language Teaching: 7 Reforms, Reflections & Responses 8 9 Committee: 10 Conference Chair: Mila Laurel 11 Conference Co- Chair Marge Ballesteros 12 Working Committees: same as in the National Convention 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 40 41 42 43 44 45 46 47 48 49 50 51 3 Call for papers Reactivate the website for the posting of the call for paper (urgent) 3 Teaching Caravans The following expressed desire to host teaching caravans 4.1 c/o US Embassy English Language Fellow Don Mariano Marcos State University Aklan Tuguegarao 4.2 c/o PALT Regional Chapter Pangasinan State University Southern Leyte State University Since Pangasinan State University has been chosen as venue of the national convention, the group decided to conduct teaching caravan at DMMSU September 2016 Southern Leyte State University August 2016 Southern Leyte has already coordinated through email about the plan and just waiting for the needs of the teachers. Not all members are expected to be in the teaching caravan, only the lectures/ speakers to be assigned based on the needs of the school and the expertise of the member. 4 PAC / International Affiliates 5.1 ThaiTESOL in January - no member decided to go thus waived participation of PALT 5.2 ETAROC in November Submission of Abstract - February 2016 PALT is given five (5) unvetted slots 1. Stephenie is given priority for the slot that has to be in 2015 and to serve as the official representative 2. Edith and Badette 3. Ross 4. Liu 5. anyone who wish to submit Ross Alonzo mentioned that PALT is giving P10,000 assistance to the PALT member participating in the PAC conference and requested that it should be granted. However, Mila Laurel mentioned that she did not avail of the privilege for three instances. It was decided that the P 30,000 saved from Mila Laurel would be released and used by the group in joining to the PAC at ETAROC. Liu is also requested to book for the members participating at ETAROC 5.3 TEFLIN in Indonesia 1 September 2016 Mila to represent PALT. Nevertheless TEFLIN is not 2 hosting PAC. 3 4 5.4 KOTESOL - 5 5.5 JALT Mila and Sarah (official representative) 6 5.6 MELTA Liu 7 5.7 FEELTA not requiring PAC member to represent 8 4 5 Malu is the official representative (official representative) PAC Website An email from Richmond dated Dec. 21, 2015 on the subject Newly 9 10 designed PAC Website reminded on what have transpired in the PAC 11 meeting held in ThaiTESOL Conference. Each member organization 12 is requested to submit non-copyrighted pictures of the following: 6.1 13 one traditional view from the country to be taken cared of Sarah, a photo from Palawan 14 6.2 15 one modern view from the country 16 picture from the High Street of the Bonifacio Global City 17 (BGC) to be taken cared of Edith 6.3 18 one easily identifiable person (based on traditional dress) 19 the group assigned Liu to look for picture of PALT members 20 wearing Filipiniana during the Cebu International Conference. 21 Richmond is requesting that these pictures be submitted in the 22 largest format possible (jpg preferred) to richmond.jalt@gmail.com. 23 Assigned members are requested to submit these on December 31. 24 6 TESOL Concerns 25 What do we get from TESOL? Why do we need to be affiliated with 26 TESOL? Since PALT is a language organization and not only 27 concern about English language teaching, Maam Ross moved to include Teaching Filipino Language (TFL) in our official communication. 28 29 Mila Laurel reiterated that TESOL is willing to provide speakers in 30 our conferences. 31 7 PALT WEBSITE 32 Sarah B. Gonzales is asked to coordinate with Clint in reactivating 33 the PALT Website. Liu also committed in helping Sarah. The call for 34 papers must be posted particularly for the international conference 35 36 8 Assessment of 2015 Activities 8.1 IFSU National Convention in May 2015 37 Problems Met 38 1. Late coordination resulted to poor attendance, costly & 39 40 41 42 unorganized food preparation 2. No official conference chair and co-chair to oversee the different committee. 3. Participants from partner institution must pay registration 43 fee. Limited number must be given for Free. 44 The partner institution must be encouraged to invite more 45 participants. This is to sustain the financial status of the 46 organization. 47 Recommendation 48 1. Early preparation of request for DepEd Memo and 49 CHED Memo. The President to prepare the rationale and 50 objectives earlier. Assign somebody to follow up the 51 memo from Deped and CHED. Edith volunteered to 1 follow up the request at DepEd and Marge at CHED. 2 CHED memo must be sent to colleges and universities by members. 3 2. Assign conference chair and co -chair to oversee the work 4 of the committee. 5 3. Evaluation committee must be permanent in all conference 6 and convention. Liu was asked to lead the committee. 7 4. Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) must be the first 8 priority. 9 8.2 10 Baguio Seminar 1. Financial matter has not settled yet. 11 8.3 12 Caravan at USC 14 1. Quite good turn out of participants in a short span of preparation. MOU is still essential. 15 2. No registration fee but the organization incurred expenses. 13 8.4 16 Roundtable discussion at Waterfront 17 1. No MOU with the Japanese. Financial assistance that was 18 given directly to the speakers was just enough to cover 19 expenses for accommodation, airfare and food. 20 Recommendations: 21 1. Edith suggested that speakers and all who served and spent time in the different activities must be given honorarium 22 just to compensate to the effort and preparation of the 23 materials. 24 25 2. Mila reported on the financial status of the organization 26 informing the group that there is enough to be given. 3. The group decided to give P 5000 to each member who 27 28 served in Baguio and Cebu Conference (USC & Waterfront 29 as one). 30 4. There are 4 who served in Baguio and 10 members in Cebu. 31 5. P 70,000 is asked to be withdrawn from the conference account. 32 33 34 5 9 Other Matters 9.1 The PALT Newsette has to be revived and Liu was assigned 35 to take charge of the newsette. The following are the articles 36 to be prepared by each member: 37 IFSU Convention news article - 38 Baguio Seminar - Stephenie 39 USC - Malu 40 Roundtable at Waterfront - Mila 41 JALT - Mila 42 KOTESOL - Sterling 43 Submission of Articles for the Newsette - 1st Week of January 2016 44 9.1 Edith and Badette The transportation allowance of members attending the regular 45 meeting was requested, however, only P 300.00 was approved by 46 the board and will take effect on the next meeting in January. 47 9.2 by the secretary/ treasurer. 48 49 50 51 The food or the snacks for every meeting must be taken cared of 9.3 It was also agreed that the monthly regular meeting of the PALT board will be held every second Sunday of the month as what has been agreed upon during the planning meeting in Tagaytay. E. Adjournment 1 2 Having no other matter to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 3 exactly 11:20am.
