August 2012 LUMIANCE LAUNCHES BOUNDARY BREAKING RUBICO Lumiance, part of the Havells-Sylvania family, has introduced Rubico, a new recessed luminaire for the office and education applications segments. It is a fitting whose name sums up the qualities and heritage of the brand; taken from the word Rubicon meaning boundary, and stemming from Rubeus the Latin word for red (the Lumiance brand colour), Rubico breaks boundaries with its performance, versatility, stylish design and installation simplicity. Designed to expand the Lumiance product portfolio in the contractor market segment, Rubico follows on from the successful launch of the Insaver LED downlighter. The luminaire has a shallow mounting depth of just 75mm to minimise intrusion into ceiling cavities and allow for simple and cost-effective installation – whatever the project. Suitable for ‘lay-in’ and ‘pull-up’ installations, Rubico is designed, developed, and manufactured in-house at Havells-Sylvania’s Saint-Etienne factory in France. “At Havells-Sylvania we are always striving to improve the performance and design of our products, and with Rubico we have really moved up to the next level” says Mark King, Senior Strategic Business Unit Manager at Havells-Sylvania. “The aesthetics, high-level performance and competitive mid-price point of Rubico means it out-performs many of the products available on the market. It is designed to sit just below our successful architectural lighting brand Concord, while still offering the build quality and performance required by the market.” The easy-to-install luminaire comes supplied with Sylvania T5 fluorescent lamps, with LOR of up to 93.4%. There is a choice of three different optics: a micro-prism optic (MPO), a louvre with opal sides, and a louvre with micro-perforated sides. These options allow contractors and specifiers to deliver exactly the right brightness and light distribution required by the project. Rubico is available in two different sizes; 600 x 600mm and 1200 x 300mm. As standard, Rubico has both emergency and DALI-compatible control gear with an air handling model available as special order. Importantly, all Rubico versions meet UK legislation CIBSE LG3/LG7 and BS EN 12464-1 (2011). By combining Rubico with the new Sylvania branded microwave and PIR occupancy detectors, up to 60% extra can be saved on lighting energy and maintenance costs. The PIR detectors are perfect for smaller spaces where a defined detection pattern is required, whilst the miniature microwave detectors have much greater coverage and sensitivity.
