HAVELLS-SYLVANIA CONTROLS UNOCCUPIED SPACES
Following the recent introduction of its Lighting Control Systems business unit,
Sylvania is pleased to announce the launch of a complete range of products for
energy saving lighting schemes. Comprising of stand-alone occupancy detectors and
sensors which integrate seamlessly into Havells Sylvania’s expanding range of lighting
luminaire brands (Concord, Lumiance and Sylvania).
“Companies currently have three core challenges that are answered by Controls:
carbon-reduction, cost-savings, and compliance with legislation,” says Sam
Woodward Senior SBU Manager Control Systems at Havells-Sylvania. “Leaving lights
burning brightly in unoccupied spaces or spaces adequately lit by daylight can cost
companies a great deal. Installing presence and light sensors could help reduce
energy costs by up to 60%. Upcoming legislation specifically addresses this and, with
systems paying for themselves through energy savings, now is the time to ensure
sensors are included in all lighting schemes.”
Havells-Sylvania’s microwave or PIR sensors can operate in one of two modes: with
presence-detection the lights are turned on automatically when a person enters a
room and will turn off automatically after a pre-set time delay when no movement is
detected. This makes them the ideal solution for corridors, meeting rooms or storage
rooms. Alternatively, with absence detection, the lights need to be manually switched
on but they will turn off automatically, which is perfect for classroom environments.
The traditional sensor problems of false-triggering, and lights going out when a room
is still in use have been addressed by the two independently adjustable sensitivity
levels: one sensitivity setting for a room in which occupancy has been already
detected, and another setting for unoccupied rooms.
Havells-Sylvania’s new detector range also has the ability to regulate lux levels within
the room using analogue or DALI diming capabilities. Ceiling or wall-mounted PIR
and microwave detectors are available, depending on project requirements.
The company has created a comprehensive brochure outlining its new range and the
benefits of using occupancy detectors. A copy can be obtained by visiting
