2015 Summer Enrichment and Workshop Options
Audrey Walton Youth Leadership Conference: Conference is for juniors and
seniors (2015-2016); it is a 3-day conference with seminars on building leadership
skills, teams' challenges, and positive group interaction. NO COST ! July 16-18 at
University of Missouri campus.
There is NO LIMIT as to the number of
applications that can come from any school. THIS IS A VERY GOOD
OPPORTUNITY FOR PRESENT SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS who wish to
learn and enhance leadership skills. Application des an essay, letter of
recommendation, signed expectation and medical release form. Counselor has
application. Deadline: 1 May 2015.
KUMC School of Medicine: Pre-Med Summer Programs are now open. The
mission of OCED Summer Programs is to create academic opportunities to support
the development of underrepresented students and their advancement in health
related careers. The program available for incoming college Freshmen:
Health Science Enrichment Institute I - A six-week summer residency program
at KU Lawrence for incoming college Freshmen at any institution that offers
instruction in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and English. More information can

A flyer for this program is attached for your convenience to copy and distribute to
your students.
The program will provide a generous stipend and will cover room and board
and classes.

UMKC EMT Training:
UMKC School of Medicine will be part of training for
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Paramedic initial education this
summer. See Mr. Murphy for further information.
UMKC Architecture "Design Discovery" Summer Workshop: Open to grades
10-12 (next year). Only $85 fee. June 8-11. Program will introduce students to
architecture, urban landscaping, and urban planning and design -- UMKC's 3
majors. Application opens 1 April 2015 and goes through 31 May 2015.
Univ of Central Missouri: Summer Graphics Camp June
21-25. Application form and details: http://www.ucmo.edu/graphics Room,
meals, workshops included in the low cost. Only $90 with scholarship. No deadline
given, but limited numbers for camp.
Camp Cardiac: Scholarship and standard applications are now open for Camp
Cardiac Kansas City 2015!
Camp Cardiac, run by local medical students in 23 cities nationwide, is a 1-week
summer day camp open to high school students interested in exploring careers in
medicine.

University of Dayton Workshops:
1) Summer Honors Engineering Camp. June 14-19 or June 21-26.
Activities include design and robot building, career options, and networking with
practicing engineers. 6 days long, coed, open to students who will be sophomores,
juniors, and seniors in Fall, 2015. Minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50. More

2) Women in Engineering Camp. July 12-17. Students will learn how
engineers creatively use knowledge and technology to improve the lives of others.
They will conduct experiments and use creativity to solve practical problems. 6 day
camp, open to females who will be upperclassmen (as outlined above) in Fall, 2015.

Truman State University: They will have a summer academy for: 1) professions
in health for present sophomores and juniors. Criteria: 3.25 cumulative GPA and
3.50 in basic sciences classes. Interested students should ask Mr. Murphy to
nominate them, and when that is done, an application and essay will follow. It is
July 5-12.
A second academy, a problem-based exploration of science, literature, and
leadership, will also be available. It is June 21-28. It is for gifted kids, and may
appeal to the non-traditional type of student.
