CLASS DESCRIPTION:
Prerequisite “C” or better in Biology/H. Biology and Chemistry or H. Chemistry.
This course is designed for juniors and seniors who are interested in learning about
astronomy and earth science in depth. The course will focus on the Universe and its stars, Earth and its
changing surfaces and climate, and how humans have impacted the Earth. Concepts you have learned in
biology, chemistry, and possibly physics will be applied to understanding of the complexities of the Universe as
well as how the Earth has changed, and continues to change.

Origin of Universe, Early Earth, Earth’s Changing Surface
Earth’s Changing Climate, Life on Earth, Human Impact on Earth’s Resources & Climate

 Do your part to help keep this classroom neat and clean. This is our house.
 Maximize your time in class. DO NOT line up at the door at the end of class

2. TREAT OTHERS AS YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE TREATED
 Collaborate, cooperate, and complement each other.
 You will NOT use inappropriate language in this classroom.
 Practice good listening skills. When someone is talking, treat him or her respectfully.
 NEVER make fun of anyone or put anyone down.

3. DO YOUR BEST
 Learn to the best of your ability and participate in class.
 Always be questioning! One question should lead to many more in science.
 Check the CMS page frequently for material to better help you understand the material.
 If you need extra help outside of class time, it is your responsibility to come see me before
or after school or during hour in room 231. You may also e-mail me and set up and
appointment.
 When you are working in a group, make sure you do your part.
 Cheating will not be tolerated. ANYONE involved will receive a zero. Plagiarism is
considered cheating. Copying homework is also considered cheating.

ABSENCES AND MAKE-UP AND LATE WORK
A. It is your responsibility to ask for make-up work before or after class or during my
conference periods. E-mail is also acceptable. Check the CMS page frequently for
calendars and daily plans.
B. You will get one day for every day you miss to complete any assessments you missed,
including tests.
C. If you are absent, check the make-up folder when you get back.
D. If we have a review day before the test and you are not there, you will still be expected to
take your test with the rest of the class.
GRADING
A. In order for YOU and I to gauge your learning you will complete quizzes, labs, projects,
outside reading, and a portfolio.
B. There will be a 10 point (or so) quiz every week on material learned the previous week.
This will allow me to see if you are “getting it”
C. Scale
90-100%=A
80-89%=B
70-79%=C
60-69%=D
What to bring to class:
 Binder-divided into notes, assessments, learning activities, and portfolio.
 Something to write with.
