EAGLE College Prep Summer Reading 2014 All students enrolled in 3rd through 8th grade are required to read the books listed below by the first day of school. During the first week of school each class will complete a project/book report/essay relating to the summer reading. Books can be checked out from the library or purchased. THIRD GRADE: Please read any Magic Treehouse book by Mary Pope Osborne. You will need to complete a Cereal Box Report due during the first week of school. Supplies: Empty cereal boxes, construction paper, crayons and/or markers, glue DIRECTIONS: Front of Box: 1. Trace around you cereal box on construction paper. 2. Cut out the shape on the construction paper. 3. Create a name for the cereal box that is related to the title of the book and sounds like a cereal. Do not use the exact title of the book. 4. Use your imagination to decorate the cover. 5. Glue the cover to the front of the cereal box. (NOTE: Create cover before gluing to the box!) Right Side: 1. Trace around the side of you cereal box on construction paper. 2. Cut out the shape on the construction paper. 3. Write the heading “ingredients” on the paper. 4. List several main characters and settings. 5. Write a sentence about each. 6. Glue to right side of cereal box. Left Side: 1. Cut a side panel for your cereal box from construction paper. 2. Write a short summary of the story. Be very descriptive and lively! 3. Glue to left side of cereal box. Cereal Box Report continued… Back of box: 1. Trace around your cereal box on construction paper. 2. Cut out the shape on the construction paper. 3. On this paper, design a game, puzzle, word search, word scramble, maze, crossword puzzle, hidden objects illustration that links with the story. 4. Glue the paper to the back of the box Top of box: 1. Trace around the top of your cereal box on construction paper. 2. Cut out the shape on the construction paper. 3. Write the title, author, and number of pages in the book. 4. List the number of stars you would give this book if you were a book critic, 1-5. Prize: 1. Choose and place an object inside the box (like a free prize in cereal). The object should represent something from the story: an event, a character, the setting, etc. FOURTH GRADE: Earthquake in the Early Morning Magic Treehouse Write a brief ½ page summary. Please include the title, author and description. FIFTH GRADE: Rules by Cynthia Lord (Newbery Honor Medal Winner) Write a brief ½ page summary. Please include the title, author and description. Sixth Grade Summer Reading 2014 EAGLE College Prep Dear rising sixth graders! This summer you will need to read THREE books: Hatchet by Gary Paulsen (required), one biography of your choice, and at least one free-choice book. We encourage you to read as many books as you would like. What to read: Hatchet by Gary Paulsen (REQUIRED) o Brian Robeson is a thirteen year-old son of divorced parents.
