IN-CLASS MARKETING ASSIGNMENT – CEREAL BOX Objective: You are going to create and market a new type of cereal with packaging for one of the leading cereal companies. (Kellogg’s, Quaker Oats, Post, General Mills) Your target market is the age group 9 – 13, “tweens”. As a total age group in Canada, there are over 4 million tweens and they spend on average $1.5 billion dollars a year. 1. Packaging should include all necessary items: Brand name, logo, UPC, instructions if necessary, warnings, ingredients and nutritional information (research food labeling regulations) Company name and their address/phone number Net weight of product Bi-lingual (French/English) Other details that you may think is needed on the box (recycle symbol) 2. Also include a written report (2 pages maximum) on how you will develop your marketing mix (4 P’s of marketing), describe your product in detail. Set up your report with the headings: 1. Product 2. Price 3. Place 4. Promotion Include a market segmentation chart (Refer to BLM 8-3 Beverage market segments as an example.) 3. Prepare a short PowerPoint presentation (3-5 minutes) describing your product, packaging and promotional campaign: include a *commercial or other form of advertising (refer to AIDA model) suitable to the tween demographic and any other forms of promotion.
