Students must complete the following 17 credits at OCC with a minimum grade of C, and a minimum GPA of

2.75 prior to application for admission to Rutgers – School of Health Related Professions (SHRP) for the professional sequence. The Rutgers – SHRP application deadline for the FALL semester is August 1.

Why study to become a Dietary Manager?

The Dietary Management program will empower graduates to run medical nutrition and general food service establishments. Dietary Managers act as supervisors or managers of long-term care facilities, assisted living, small hospitals, schools, military, and other non-commercial settings.

They are an important part of the nutritional care team. Dietary Managers are also responsible for food safety and for selecting foods that conform to dietary prescriptions.

Does OCC offer a Dietary Manager Certificate?

Yes. A new partnership with Rutgers – School of Health Related Professions (SHRP) will allow

OCC students to earn a Dietary Manager Certificate by completing seventeen (17) credits in prerequisite courses at OCC and take the remaining fifteen (15) clinical credits, largely online but with some fieldwork required. The professional phase is a 10 month full-time program and the clinical experience will take place in the Food and Nutrition Services Department at University

Hospital, Newark, NJ. This program prepares students to take the certification exam through the

Association for Nutrition and Food Service Professionals (ANFP).

Is the program accredited?

Yes. The program is accredited by the Dietary Management Association (DNA).

Do I need to be a resident of Ocean County to enter the program?

Yes. To participate, a student must be a resident of Ocean County and complete a minimum of seventeen (17) credits in residence at OCC.

What are the prerequisite courses needed to apply?

Prior to being admitted to the 10-month professional sequence at Rutgers SHRP, students are required to complete the following prerequisite courses at OCC (17 credits):

ENGL 151 – English I BIOL 130 - Anatomy & Physiology I

MATH 156 – Introduction to Statistics BIOL 131 – Anatomy & Physiology II

PSYC 172 – General Psychology

Is there a minimum GPA required to be accepted into the program?

Yes. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 in general education courses is required before starting the professional phase of the program.

How far is the commute to Rutgers SHRP - Newark campus?

The commute time is approximately 1 hour 25 minutes (65 miles) from Toms River and is approximately 2 miles east of exit 144 of the Garden State Parkway. (Note many courses are currently offered online).

Is there a deadline to apply?

The application deadline for the professional component of the Dietary Manager Program is

August 1 st for the Fall semester. Rutgers SHRP makes all admission decisions.

Start by applying to Ocean County College and enroll in prerequisite courses. Complete and submit the Student Information Sheet for the Dietary Manager Certificate.
