Western African Leader “Trading Cards!”

Directions: For this assignment you will be designing a trading card for each of
the Western African rulers we’ve talked about! Using the template I have given
you, you will fill in the information for each and then illustrate them! You will
pick 4 of the 5 rulers we’ve mentioned! When you’re done, this will make a
handy-dandy study tool to get to know your African rulers!
Your choices are:
TUNKA MANIN, SUNJATA, MANSA MUSA, ASKIA THE GREAT, SUNNI ALI
On the Front:
1. A colored, illustrated picture of the ruler.
2. The empire they ruled in.
3. Their name
Cut each card out, then provide the following information on the back:
1. Any nicknames that ruler might have had.
2. AT LEAST 3 interesting main facts about that ruler/achievements.
3. What religion did they follow? (animism? Islam?)
When you are done with your cards, you can come to Mr. Parsons to punch
holes in the corners of your cards and get string to tie a loop around then so
that you can form a flipbook.
You will turn these in on the day of the Western Africa Quest (to be
announced!) for points!)

1 pt. for name.
Back of card:
1 pt. for ruler nickname if any?
1. pts. For 3 facts
1 pt. for religion of ruler.
Total for each card: 9 pts.
