Ms Johnson 2. Cassiopia 3. This constellation circles polaris in the Northern Hemisphere. Solar Notes p. 19 SNB 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. How did our solar system form? How is energy produced in the sun? What is the sun made of? (draw) What are sunspots? How are solar flares formed? How did our solar system form? A nebula condensed under gravitational pressure, collapsing into a flat rotating disk. How is energy produced in the sun? Nuclear Fusion: Hydrogen is converted into helium, releasing energy. This occurs in the center of the sun. What is the sun made of? (draw) What are sunspots? Dark area of the photosphere that is cooler than its surroundings and has a strong magnetic field. How are solar flares formed? The same magnetic fields that cause sunspots can cause giant eruptions from the sun’s surface. These can interrupt radio communication on earth because of the electrically charged particles they release. Reflection: If Hydrogen collided with Hydrogen under immense heat and pressure, what element would form?
