AP Biology Mastery System Third Quarter Goals Levels 1 2 3 5 Points 5 90 5 50 20 20 10 50 Total 250 Unit Test Sum of Topics x5 Labs HLQ Practice Teach 4 Points by Topic A minimum of 175 points is required to achieve topic mastery At least 1 level 4 activity must be perfored prior to entering level 5. A maximum of 250 points may be earned per topic All homework will be worth 5 points per grade. Some homework assignments can be worth multiple grades. Check assignment guide. A maximum of 50 points may be gained through homework assignments. All AP Biology Labs are REQUIRED level 4 activities. When no labs for a topic are available, practice worksheet points (Higher Order Thinking / Extensive Review work only) are worth twice as much. Students cannot retake test, but may submit test corrections for a higher grade If student completes levels 1-5 for all units/topics of the quarter, but cannot gain enough points on the test to pass (even after corrections) or wishes to gain higher level: A) Alternative oral mastery test: B) Alternative project oriented mastery demonstration * It is very unlikely that this will happen Topics: 1) Taxonomy (1 day; 1/9) 2) Microbiology/Virology/Mycobiology (2 days; 1/13) 250 1000 Chapters: 27, 19, 28, 31 5000 500 Topics 1-2 Chapters: 29-30 1250 Chapters: 35-39 6000 750 Topics 3-4 Chapters: 32-34 250 250 250 250 250 250 500 Chapter: 40 Chapter: 41 Chapter: 42 Chapter: 43 Chapter: 44 Chapter: 45 Chapter 46-47 750 Chapter: 48-50 Note: Once 200 Mastery of this topic is achieved, actual points gained are multipled by 4 Test 1 (1 day; 1/18) 3) Plant Diversity (2 days; 1/25) Note: Once 200 Mastery of this topic is achieved, actual points gained are multipled by 2 4) Plant Structures (4 days; 2/7) Note: Once 200 Mastery of this topic is achieved, actual points gained are multipled by 5 Test 2 (1 day; 2/9) 5) Animal Diversity (2 days; 2/15) Note: Once 200 Mastery of this topic is achieved, actual points gained are multipled by 3 6) 7) 8) 9) 10) 11) 12) Animal Physiology Overview (1 day; 2/17) Nutritional System (1 day; 2/22) Circulation & Gas Exchange (2 days; 2/28) Immune System (2 days; 3/6) Osmoregulation & Excretion (2 days; 3/19) Hormones & Endocrine System (2 days; 3/23) Animal Reproduction & Development (2 days; 3/23) Note: Once 200 Mastery of this topic is achieved, actual points gained are multipled by 2 13) Neurological & Motor Mechanisms (2 days, 3/29) TOTAL SEMESTER POINTS = 17500 Final Grade Goals A) 15300 Points (87%) Topic 13 @ Mastery Level; B on Tests B) 12350 Points (71%) Topic 12 @ Mastery Level; C+ no Tests C) 9870 Points (56%) Topic 11 @ Mastery Level; C on Tests D) 8000 Points (45%) Topic 10 @ Mastery Level; B on Tests F) Anything less than D Standard Note: Although this is the proper pace for this quarter, you are encouraged to try to cut days during the anatomy chapters. Accelerating through those sections will allow you to have more time to review in April for the AP test. A good goal would be to take the Physiology test & 3 Ecology topics before the end of the 3rd quarter. In some of those chapters, it is realistic to spend 1 day per chapter, as opposed to 2. The above rate puts you 4 days behind of Syllabus pace, since we started taxonomy late. Giving you only 3 days for AP test review. You want to give yourself 4-8 at least (3 block weeks)
