FRANKENSTEIN By: Marry Shelly Ruben Hughes Mr. Landeros English 12, per. 1 4/10/13 POINT OF VIEW: The story is told in first person using letters to tell the story which helps make it easier to follow since the story is a flashback. Any other point of view would have made this story hard to follow. SETTING: The setting is in the 18th century The mood is a dark gloomy feeling MAIN CHARACTER: The main character is Victor Frankenstein Character traits: cowardly, irrational, intelligent, confident, ignorant. Examples: Victor shows his ignorance when he fails to recognize all Frankenstein desires is love. Victor is intelligent because he was able to create Frankenstein, Victor is cowardly because he feared his own creation. The character is static because his attitude towards Frankenstein never changed even at his own death. MAIN CHARACTER IN A MOVIE: The main character is Victor Frankenstein In a movie Bill Murray would play this character/persona because he has the character to play a crazy scientist. TONE: The tone of the book is dark to help emphasize the sadness and drama of the story. QUOTE: “Who shall conceive the horrors of my secret toil as I dabbled among the unhallowed damps of the grave or tortured the living animal to animate the lifeless clay”(pg. 30)-This quote shows how dark this book is and shows the reader that Victor is aware of the abomination Frankenstein will be. THEME: The theme of the book is don’t play God because Victor Frankenstein did this and everything did not end well for him in the end. PLOT SUMMARY Victor Frankenstein is found ill by Robert Walton Victor tells Walton about the creation of Frankenstein Victor explains how Frankenstein was made of body parts Victor becomes terrified of Frankenstein and runs away Victor’s siblings die Frankenstein ask for a mate Victor creates Frankenstein a mate and destroys it soon after Victor’s newly wed bride is killed by Frankenstein Victor dies from being ill Frankenstein finds Victor and weeps over his dead body then leaves to the ice land to die MOST MEMORABLE SCENE: The most memorable scene would have to be at the end when Frankenstein cries over Victor’s dead body. This really stands out because the author really displayed how Frankenstein did have a heart. This scene truly showed that Frankenstein was just simply misunderstood and only wanted to be loved. Then it was sad because he left to die in the end. PICTURE THAT DESCRIBES THEME: This picture shows how easy it is to play God, but in actuality it is not. CRITICAL ANALYSIS: I enjoyed this book because it was simply about a misunderstood creature and it reminded me how we as people can misunderstand others. I think everyone would enjoy this book simply because it is a classic and has a great message and theme to it. PICK A TEACHER?!: I can not just pick one teacher to read this book I would have to suggest this book to all of them because it is such a great book.
