YMCA – Leader-in Training Camps (LIT)

LIT is a two week specialized staff-training program which trains campers in
necessary skills and responsibilities to be staff in years to come. LIT’s
participate in leadership development focusing on team building, cooperation,
and supervision. They will work side-by-side with staff members to gain skills in managing group behavior,
leading activities, and supporting the staff.

How do I apply?
Participants must apply and be accepted before they can register. The application deadline is midnight, March
31, 2013. Notice of acceptance is given between April 1 and 30.

Are you a sports fan? Capture your love of sports in the way you write. Our writing coaches will teach you
skills for writing sports–related fiction and nonfiction. You’ll also learn how to use writing to connect with
athletes, better understand sports psychology, and illustrate the intensity of the game to your audience. Keep
your writing at the top of its game!

A picture is worth a thousand words. In flash fiction a thousand words is all you have. Learn how to write
vibrant, convincing, and concise stories. Read examples of flash fiction, and tap your creativity through free–
writing exercises. You’ll also learn professional photography techniques. At the end of the camp your
photo/flash fiction masterpiece will go into the group anthology—and your flash fiction story will be
submitted to the website “365 Tomorrows” for possible publication.
A weeklong writing workshop for students who are entering grades 9–12.

Intermountain Junior Science & Humanities Symposium (IJSHS)
THE IJSHS is sponsored in cooperation with the US Departments of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, the
Academy of Applied Sciences and the University of Utah. The primary aims of the IJSHS are to promote
research and experimentation in the physical and social sciences, engineering, and mathematics at the high
school level, and to publicly recognize students for outstanding achievement. Approximately 150 students and
teachers from the 5 intermountain states (UT, ID, CO, MT & NV) are brought together for the opportunity to
present original research. Winners also compete in the national competition. Awards include scholarships of
various amounts. The symposium is a three-day event. Fee: $50 registration fee due upon application to

Summer Chemistry Enrichment Program
This summer chemistry program is offered to qualified
high school students who have completed either their
junior or sophomore year, and has one or more years of chemistry completed. Eight hours of credit are
awarded and will be applied toward University of Utah graduation requirements. Fee: Regular tuition and fees,

Each summer, the College of Engineering at NC State University offers High School students the opportunity to
experience engineering, science and technology at NC State.
We offer a multidisciplinary week-long day camp for rising 9th and 10th graders and discipline-specific
residential camps for rising 11th and 12th graders. The residential program allows students to explore a
particular field of engineering in more depth while also experiencing college life at NC State University.
