Purpose: Through the academic disciplines
and co-curricular activities, General
Education provides multiple, varied, and
intentional learning experiences to facilitate
the acquisition of fundamental knowledge
and skills and the development of attitudes
that foster effective citizenship and life-long
learning.

Course Syllabus Ref# 778568
1. Communicate effectively using listening,
speaking, reading, and writing skills.
Professor will address this outcome trough all
assessments described in the syllabus.
2. Use quantitative analytical skills to
evaluate and process numerical data. In this
course students will need to read and identify
data from graphs and charts. Students will
also learn to develop quantitative skills to
interpret data from graphs. Also, students will
solve algebraic equations and inequalities
and manipulate data through unit analysis.
3. Solve problems using critical and creative
thinking and scientific reasoning. In the
process of solving mathematical problems,
students will need to use critical thinking
skills to interpret solutions. Creativity in
solving problems is constantly encouraged in
this course and viewed as an important skill
in mathematics. Critical skills are heavily
emphasized in this course.
4. Formulate strategies to locate, evaluate,
and apply information.
In this course students will often need to
solve real-life word problems which apply the
mathematical concepts presented. Students

will work to solve these problems and identify
relevant information in the problems in order
to be able to solve them.
5. Demonstrate knowledge of diverse
cultures, including global and historical
perspectives.
In this course, whenever possible, students
will be introduced to the use of mathematics
through diverse cultures as well as historical
notes on the mathematical concepts you
learn.
6. Create strategies that can be used to fulfill
personal, civic, and social responsibilities.
This outcome is heavily reinforced in this
course. I constantly teach them that: It is
they personal, civic and social responsibility
to take education seriously by putting forth
the effort needed for them to succeed. In this
class, as in life, only you are responsible for
your actions and the end result of them. Do
not put the blame on anyone other than
yourself. One should not subscribe to the
“Book of Excuses”. "Opportunity is missed by
most people because it is dressed in overalls
and looks like work." Thomas Alva Edison. In
truth, everyone has the same opportunity and

should look for answers within themselves to
find solutions to their own problems. Being
respectful of others indicates you respect
yourself. Do this by speaking intelligently,
dressing appropriately and admitting your
weaknesses truthfully. Education makes you
strong; it remains in your brain and no one
can take it away from you. Select a major
that fulfills your personal goals but that also
addresses society’s need to answer certain
burning questions.
7. Demonstrate knowledge of ethical thinking
and its application to issues in society. This
outcome is not reinforced in this course.
8. Use computer and emerging technologies
effectively. In this course students will be
frequently informed about their progress in
the course via email.
9. Demonstrate an appreciation for aesthetics
and creative activities.
This outcome is not reinforced in this course.
10. Describe how natural systems function
and recognize the impact of humans on the
environment. This outcome is heavily
reinforced in this course. Every time that we
talk about a solution of a "Real World

NOTES:
I. This is a course where the professor has no time to go
more than once over the material. In case of questions,
use the office hours that are included in this document
or the MathLab.
II- The Professor will solve no more than one example of
each topic. The rest of the problems, the student need to
do by him/herself and in case of questions, use the office
hours that are included in this document or the MathLab.
III – I recommend this course for students that love Math,
have strong background of Algebra, and have an “A” in
MAC 1105
IV- The schedule showing here is tentative and is subject to
any change at the discretion of the Professor.
V.
There are HW whose topics will not be covered in
classes (you should know them already). You need to do
those HW and they will be graded as the rest. In the same
manner, you will get questions in your exams about those
topics
