Often, games are played with friends and family members, so they can spend quality time together. Even though games are meant to be entertaining and exciting for all players, the ruthless General Zaroff takes playing games to a new level where he is the only one participating who is having fun. In Richard Connell’s short story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” General Zaroff creates an inhumane game to kill humans such as Rainsford, and he plays the game with an unfair advantage, superior attitude over the other players, and pure amusement over killing innocent people. • Even though games should be entertaining for all participants, Rainsford did not enjoy himself playing General Zaroff’s game of fighting to the death. In essence, General Zaroff’s game of murder does not allow Rainsford to have an equal chance in playing the game to win. With General Zaroff’s knowledge of the land and dangers, he has unfair advantage over Rainsford who is a stranger to the isalnd. Furthermore, General Zaroff’s superior attitude is a driving force while playing the game because he does not feel that he is defeating anyone of importance. While Rainsford attempts to master the game for his own survival, General Zaroff shows no concern because he finds enjoyment in hunting those who fear for their lives. It is amazing that Rainsford did not just give up and forfeit the game since General Zaroff obviously did not play the game fairly.
