He slashed his father with a sickle and released the Titans from their prison. Cronus (Saturn) Cronus married his sister Rhea, and like his father he was also afraid his children would dethrone him. He therefore ate his children every time Rhea had a newborn. Zeus One day Rhea smuggled one of her children away to the island of Crete so Cronus couldn’t swallow it. Cronus knew Rhea was pregnant and when she returned he asked for the child. She gave Cronus a large rock wrapped in blankets instead.
