Culture and Religion—How Do We Define Culture and Religion? Ms. Watson Contemporary Culture and Religion 10 Class Meetings LAP 1 LAP 1 Overview: In order to explore the relationship between culture and religion, it is first necessary to develop a foundation for this study. To do so we must begin to articulate a comprehensive understanding of culture and religion and all their complexities. We must probe those elements that are essential to culture and understand more readily our own twenty-first century cultural environment. We will also examine the role of faith and religion within a culture, as well as pay special attention to how the Catholic Church understands the relationship between culture, acknowledging the influence that it has on the other. Rational: In the Incarnate Word Mission Statement, it states that Women of the Word are called to recognize the dignity of the human person and make a positive impact on the world. To be a follower of Christ is to live this world in all its joys and struggles. Jesus, as the ultimate example of one who both embraced an challenged culture can be our model in this endeavor.
