Class Policies and Expectations:
The following is a list of general rules for class. My main focus for presenting rules is to ensure
that the classroom is safe and everyone is able to successfully learn in a comfortable and
enjoyable environment.
Raise your hand
Only one person out of the room at a time
No talking while I’m talking
Make best use of transition time (ex: throwing garbage away, sharpening pencil, etc.).
These things should be done during transition times, not while I’m teaching or giving
directions.
No lining up at the door at the end of class, remain seated
No cell phones, iPods, and portable game systems; these must remain invisible the
entire class period.
Class problems will be dealt with personally with the student and me (Mr. Yancey). If the
problem persists I will consult parents, security, the counselor, and/or the principal.

Course Grading Criteria:
All quizzes, tests, and projects will be graded according to the Belle Vernon Area School District

having letter grades per each effort. The grading scale is as follows:
A
B
C
D

-
90-100
80-89
70-79
60-69
0-59
Emphasis will be on formal assessments. Therefore grades will be weighted in this course.
Formal Assessments will account for 90% of a student’s grade (quizzes, tests, projects,
performance-based rubrics, essays, graded homework, etc.)
Informal Assessments will account for 10% of a student’s grade (homework for completion,
class participation, exit tickets, etc.)
Make Up Work
Missing class too often usually leads to low grades, so absences should be limited. If you are
sick, you should see me as soon as you get back so you can get caught up on missing work
and/or quizzes and tests. It is your job to come and see me for missing work, not the other way
around. If you know ahead of time that you will be absent, you should let me know so I can
provide you with the work that you will miss.
Academic Standards:
Students will be reacquainted with the Pennsylvania Academic Standards that have been
adopted by the Department of Education, along with the Common Core Standards that are in
the process of being implemented nationwide. Students will be made aware of the importance
of the standards and the efforts to meet them.
