Daily practice is required outside of class for success in this course. Suggested amounts of
practice time: 30 - 45 minutes daily practice is recommended, depending on your skill level.
For those with keyboard experience, 15-30 minutes may be enough time. The best results will
be obtained by carefully following the directions given in the text, being present at each class,
taking notes in each class session and practicing consistently until you play it correctly and with
no stops. Daily short sessions of practice are better than long “cram sessions” the day before
an exam. Be sure to schedule this into your daily calendar of activities.
Attendance Policy:
It is your responsibility to attend all classes. After 4 absences, your final grade will be dropped
by a letter. If you are ill or have a family emergency that makes it necessary for you to miss
class, call me or the music office. It is your responsibility to find out what was covered in any
class you miss and to be prepared for the next class.
If you miss a test without notifying me in advance, you will receive a grade of zero and will
not have an opportunity to make up a missed exam. Tests and exams will not be re-scheduled
except for excused absences.

Piano Proficiency Modules
Each module must be passed with a grade of C or above in order to have passed
Proficiency and in order to pass KS III.
For any modules earning below the grade of C, student have the option of a “Second
Chance” by re-taking that particular module during the designated time during Final Exam
week.
Students may not submit particular Modules after the in class test date – you must wait
until Finals Week.
For any module(s) not successfully performed during the semester, the student will
register in KS IV the next spring, and may submit these module(s) during the Early Submission
Period, and thus “test out” early from the course.
Early Submission Testing.
Students who wish to use the Early Submission Period must notify instructor 3 weeks in
advance indicating which module they will be submitting. 2 weeks before the test date, the
instructor will give test requirements. During the class period, the teacher may check the
progress of student in this area.
It is best to e-mail me if there is a problem or if you have any questions. If you don’t
understand something we covered in class, please see me after class. I am also on facebook if
you care to friend me.
