Mathematical studies SL
This course is available at SL only. It caters for students with varied backgrounds and abilities.
More specifically, it is designed to build confidence and encourage an appreciation of
mathematics in students who do not anticipate a need for mathematics in their future studies.
Students taking this course need to be already equipped with fundamental skills and a
rudimentary knowledge of basic processes. (PK- Presumed Knowledge)

What you need to know (PK):
1) Number and algebra: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, order of operations,
fractions, decimals, primes, factors, multiples, ratios, proportions, percents, simple
algebraic expressions, factorization, expansion, rearrange formulae, solve equations in
one and two variables, evaluating exponential expressions, order relations.
2) Geometry and Trigonometry: point, line, plane, angle, simple two-dimensional shapes
and properties, perimeters and areas of circles, triangles, quadrilaterals and compound
shapes, coordinate plane, sine, cosine, and tangent, Pythagoras theorem.
3) Statistics: Collection of data and representation in bar charts, pie charts and pictograms
4) Financial mathematics: Basic use of commonly accepted world currencies.
What you need to have:
1) One 2” binder to be left in the classroom for daily papers and re-write papers.
2) One 2” binder to carry class notes and homework assignments.
3) Pens, pencils, paper.

2) Laptop computer and flash drive
